Der markante Hügelzug des Jura zieht sich nördlich des Alpenhauptkamms entlang. Oberhalb von Bettlach (479 m ü. M.) im Kanton Solothurn erhebt sich im Faltenjura die Wandflue-Kette. Das schweizerdeutsche Wort «Flue» bedeutet «Felsen» oder «Abbruch» und ist in der Schweiz ein oft verwendeter Zusatz bei Ortsbezeichnungen. Die helle Kalkfelswand (1'400 m ü. M. ) fällt gegen Süden steil ab. Oberhalb des Grats verläuft eine Hochebene zum Obergrenchenberg (1'353 m ü. M.), wo sich eine Windkraftanlage befindet.
Die Wandflue entstand nach dem Rückzug des eiszeitlichen Rhonegletschers durch einen grossen Bergsturz. Auf den bis zur Aare im Süden hinunterreichenden Schuttmassen steht das Dorf Bettlach.

The Jura Mountains are an elongated and striking mountain range north of the main chain of the Alps. The Wandflue is a rocky chain of ridges in the Folded Jura and is situated above Bettlach (479 m above sea level) in the canton of Solothurn. The Swiss-German word «Flue» has among others the meaning of «rock» or «landslide» and is a frequently used toponym in Switzerland. The light-colored limestone face, situated at approx. 1,400 m above sea level, descends steeply towards the south. Above the ridge, a high plain leads towards the mountain Obergrenchenberg (1,353 m above sea level), where a wind power plant is situated.

The Wandflue originated when the ice-age Rhone Glacier retreated and in doing so caused a large landslide due to missing pressure from the ice masses. Today, the village of Bettlach is situated on top of the debris, which reaches down to the Aar in the south.
