Why Have Western People Become Less Religious?

The middle line is we have desires and it's normal to have them. But there are ways to fulfill them in a permissable way. If it's a desire for intimacy then you get married if it's a desire for a high from some substance then you have other ways like lifting and resisting the urge because later it stops having an influence over you. Money - no problem get a job work hard be honest and it's all good as long as you fulfill your religious duties. So the issue aren't the desires it's fulfilling them in a permissible way and not letting the desires of this world distract us from working for the next one which is eternal.

the problem with Western society is it isn't irreligious. most Western people believe in totally whacky religious ideas but they don't recognise these ideas as religious because of an ignorance about the origins of what people believe

That is an amazing thought process. I totally agree that if a child is restricted everywhere, he/she will more likely be rebellious.

It probably started somewhere in the 13th/14th century. There were a lot of scholars that started twisting the religion to the benefits of their material needs and "translating" the bible to "the common tongue". They took a lot of what was then Arabic knowledge and "reinvented" it as if it were their own. At least that's what I've learned from my minor in Western ethics and philosophy.

Because Christianity is boring. There is not much said on how to live a life. They had to bring music to keep the public alive in the church. Islam is best because it has many practices and laws which makes us a lively community.

What comes to mind is the hadith of Rasulullah that to every situation there are two extremes, one too extreme towards the worldly aspect and the other extreme towards religious extremes. The wisdom of Islam is the middle path. So follow the middle path. We all are extreme one way or another. Al Islam balances this. Unfortunately we have too many extremists hence why such rebellious actions from the youth
