Best Android Smartphone for Root & Custom ROMs! [OnePlus/Pixel]

In this video I talk about the best Android smartphone for root and custom ROMs focusing on the easiest and also one with the most custom ROMs. Without a doubt, the OnePlus 8/8 Pro are probably the best Android smartphone for root and custom ROMs along with all OnePlus phones as they are really tailored so the user can easily root their phone, update firmware within the OS, and there's a lot of good ROMs you can try that's fully compatible. Also, Google Pixel phones are great such as the Pixel 4, but I do have to give the win to OnePlus since it's even easier than Pixel phones plus you get full Qualcomm unbrick tool that literally allows you to unbrick your phone completely back to factory status(and that's what they use to flash phones at the factory). Meanwhile, Samsung & LG phones have locked bootloader on all U.S. models since several years ago and it is literally impossible to root U.S. models. For those with Sprint or Verizon service, that means you cannot get root with Samsung or LG. You can always grab the Exynos models of Samsung phones of European models of LG but they don't always support the newer 4G LTE bands of T-Mobile and also do not support Sprint/Verizon. Xiaomi is also very good but they have a 30-45 day bootloader wait time, meaning you can't root your phone for the first 30-45 days, which is a hassle since you want to unlock the bootloader right when you get your phone so you don't have to reset everything again. Also, unlocked versions of OnePlus(since 6T) and Pixel phones are hybrid GSM/CDMA phones that support all 4 carriers and 4G LTE bands, which makes it very useful in case you want to switch networks later. Overall, if you want root and custom ROMs, I would highly suggest going with either OnePlus or Pixel smartphones as you will avoid much of the hassle of trying to make something work(that's not supposed to) and pretty much made for rooting/custom ROMs. #OnePlus8 #OnePlus8Pro #Pixel4 #HighOnAndroid

This was a great video Max, I used to think that most unlocked phones could be unlocked and now I know OnePlus is the way to go. The last Samsung phone I rooted/unlocked was the Note 2 and that was pretty easy back then. Then I got a Nexus 6 and enoyed years of rooting and romming there too. I went the way of Apple just to try it out for once, then came back to the LG G7. I knew that rooting/romming would not be possible and I was ok with that. I am still good because over the years the phone's UI's have gotten better and leaves less reason for me to want to unlock/root, I am very happy with the phone's native performance. I still kinda miss the tinkering and there seems to be a unlock method recently discovered for the Verizon LG G7 which is what I have but it is waaay to complicated for me to try to figure out. I wish there was an easier tutorial on that. Anyway, one of these days I will get my hands on an OP device and maybe go back to rooting and romming. Thanks for all you do for this community who still cares about this stuff! Forever a fan!

Well I fully agree with you Max on the Samsung's. Changed from last year's Pixel 3xl to Note 10+ 5g... And although I do miss V4A and other small mods, it feels like I really don't need much with Note 10, it's fine as is. So I've basically taken the year of modding any phones, maybe at the end of year or start of next year I may get another Pixel device just for Root.

I've been trying for a week to install LineageOS on my T-Mobile LG V20. I set aside some time I download the basics, and 2 hours later I have a million tabs open, files & sd cards all over the place, but I've made no progress. It's then that I give up and go drink (and cry) myself to sleep. I remember when custom roms were fun. smh.

Been here since the Samsung Galaxy S2 days, then had the Xiaomi Mi5 and now OP6T. Can really see myself having anything else but OP or Pixel. Maybe, just maybe, a Xiaomi.

I have a 1+6 and I tried to flash Pixel Experience. I failed and completely bricked my phone. Thanks God for the MsmDownloadTool, I was almost crying when I bricked the phone, but after a bit of research, I found the unbricking tool that saved my phone. I am definetly going for the new Pixel 6 when it comes out, and I hope Google Tensor does not make difficult the unlocking and ROM flashing process.

I just got a Galaxy note 4 Verizon (another one), because it was the best upgrade I've ever had (over the SE1)

Max, thanks for your videos, great help for at least 5 years now. But didn't Xiaomi change their unlock policy recently to a very short time now? Thanks Max.

In india to unlock mi phones don't take that much time, in past we need wait one week, But now we can unlock that in one day.

Dang... I just got Lineage 17.1 on my mi 9 lite and it's nice. Your tutorials helped a lot. But for real, that wait time on the bootloader unlock is annoying. Mine was only a 130 hrs tho

Hey Max ! Is rooting even worth it now? I mean I have rooted my S2, S3 and Note 5 for the customs ROMs and great applications that used to be out there . Now, I have a note 9 and I find no use for root except probably just to get the gcam to work for both front and back cameras . Even custom Roms are no longer worth it considering the good performance of Samsungs OS nowadays . Would really like your insight

What was the name of the unbricking tool that you mentioned?
Or could you put the link to it in your description?

I'm on team google. Because it's one of the easier phones to root if you use magisk.
