I can't believe the Lifehacker blog actually recommended this video. Lame ideas...not very useful or clever. And BTW, if you use it as a keychain, you might inadvertently close the opening tighter, since it ratchets in that direction (though you could always stick a pin in the lock tab and allow it to slide back open). If you put a bead of glue where the zip tie locks, it could become a good hack.

I pretty much never downvote videos, but I couldn't help myself on this one.

Thanks. The tennis shoes and backpack are my favorite. I'll actually use those.
I have garden shoes I hate tying and untying everytime I come in and out of my garden. Zip ties to the rescue.
And I once wore a backpack in a busy city and some bloke attempted to get into it while I was in a crowd. I turned and looked him dead in the face and he ran right into traffic to get away. Too bad he didn't get hit. Kidding. I mean I'm glad he didn't get hit (not). No more worrying about if someone is screwing with your backpack behind your back or not. Using zip ties maybe you'd feel it if they tried getting in and if you made the ties tight enough to remove loops. thx
