This is the first of a series of videos that teaches you in clear concise terms how to read the historic language of ancient Egypt. Today’s video introduces the Egyptian language and sets the stage for learning this fascinating and complex language.

* At 4:15, there is a typo, ugh. The caption on the picture should read "Ramesses II before Amun-Re," not Ramesses III.

To pre-order my forthcoming book the “Ark of the Covenant in its Egyptian Context: An Illustrated Journey.”

Other Egyptian resources:
Mark Collier and Bill Manley, “How to Read Egyptian Hieroglyphs."

James Hoch, “Middle Egyptian Grammar."

Alan H. Gardiner, “Egyptian Grammar.”

Raymond Faulkner, “Concise Dictionary of Middle Egyptian.”

@AncientEgyptAndTheBible, regarding the book recommendations you gave, do you have any particular opinion about James P. Allen's textbook on Middle Egyptian?

Hey Dr. Falk, good video, I already have the "how to read Hieroglyphs" by Mark Collier, but I would want your advice on how to study it, would you recommend learning the all vocabulary of the lesson before the grammar and then doing the exercises or vocabulary is not that important and I should just learn the vocabulary from the specific lists? not all that is on the lesson
