You asked for more Ilona. You asked for more ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. And you technically asked for as many tangents relating to ancient Egyptian life as possible (see our community post if you don't believe us). So here it is: curator of ancient writing Ilona Regulski is going to teach you how to read your first sentence in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. Definitely not hieroglyphics!

CONTENT WARNING:
There is a deeply palpable love of verbs throughout.
Also, Nick is there.

If you'd like to find out more about how hieroglyphs were deciphered in the 1800s, we currently have an exhibition on all about exactly that:

Hieroglyphs: unlocking ancient Egypt is on now!

So going to be honest, this one hurt my brain both during the shoot and throughout the entire edit. But Ilona was a gentle and brilliant teacher through it all. Hope you all like this one. Nick x

Ilona Regulski is a great tutor, especially when the hieroglyphs are visually underlining her speech ! Great ! She should make complete lessons on youtube for this language !

I can’t believe that studying ancient hieroglyphs would grab and hold my attention for longer than while watching cats being scared of cucumbers. Incredible content, love Ilona’s passionate attitude.

Love this video.
I have studied formal Arabic so the concept of the dual is apparently more widespread than I imagined.
In 2017, I visited a neighbor who relocated to Cairo. We to the train from Cairo to Luxor along with her children. After a few days, they went north and I rode the train to Aswan.
I hired a car an driver in Aswan and drove back to Luxor stopping in Kom Omba where I learned about Sobek, the crocodile god. There was a museum with mummified crocodiles and informative reading throughout the delightful museum.
The Temple was actually the Temple of Horus and Sobek.
Fascinating to bring some of my travel memories together.

OK, mind blown but interesting! I'm gripped! It's amazing how at school I couldn't be bothered to pay attention and now I'm 55 and I'm wishing I listened more. Love it.

Ilona's radiating passion for linguistics is so mesmerizing and heartwarming! For me, watching this video was like witnessing a time-travel incantation and I really hope to see more videos on the subject of egyptology from her.
