Perfect crimps from an all-in-one network crimp tool. Ideal’s TeleMaster RJ-45/RJ-11 Modular Plug Crimp Tool is a winner, with built in cutter/trimmer, sheath stripper, and crimper for both phone jacks and network cables. The auto-releasing lock works great, keeping it closed and easy to handle when it’s in my pouch, and the steel construction, along with the replaceable cutting blade, mean this tool will last a long, long time.

The molded and over molded handles are comfortable, and there’s a tether ring on the handle so it won’t drop to the ground—I have not had a drop test as all my crimps have been at ground level, but on a ladder this loop would be crucial, and I’d have drilled the handle if a loop wasn’t provided.

I appreciate the included modular plugs, and I’ll look for Ideal’s RJ-45 plugs when I need more because they work really well, holding the sheath and wires in place perfectly. The crimps are really nice and tight.

I’m a novice data cable guy, so a buddy who does it daily came over and trained me quickly, and I figured his tools would be much easier than mine since he’s a pro and has tried all the tools. We found zero fault with these crimpers, and they were not any more difficult to use than his crimper. These are professional grade.

I noticed with the number of cables I’ll be pulling through the attic and walls for POE cameras and network connections (smart tv, stereo, internet boosters, etc.) that I’d have a much easier time buying bulk cable without ends when I needed to pull through walls and through the top plates in to the attic. The cost of buying premade cables vs. making my own using fireproof plenum cables would be a wash after I got the tools, and I’d have a much easier time pulling the cable without the RJ-45 jacks and I’d be meeting code regulations for in-wall wiring. If you have more than 3 or 4 cables to pull, make the investment in this crimper and save money, frustration, and larger top plate holes. I’m sure glad I can make my own cables!
