What does indium metal look like?

Показать описание
Indium is a soft, rare metal that is very resistant to corrosion and is non-toxic (but also fairly expensive)

Germanium is named after Germany and francium after France but indium is not named after India. The name was instead inspired from spectroscopy where its discoverer analyzed a sample containing this metal gave off an indigo glow, a beautiful color halfway between blue and purple.

While indium is the softest of all air-stable metals it's not true that it can be rolled on your fingertips like play-doh. If a piece is thin enough, say a quarter-inch or so, then you could cut it with scissors but you might mess up the scissors instead. It can be compared to soft vinyl plastic.

What is fun about Indium is you can indent it with your fingernail if you want, and even break a small piece in two. A fun metal to add to your collection or just to have on your desk to toy with during your next zoom call.

Is metallic indium harmful to the human body through skin contact? Indium is an extremely soft metal and leaves gray marks on the skin, so doesn't it enter the body like lead and is it not harmful? For example: is it safe to wear an exclusive indium ring?
