Leopard Male vs Porcupine

What an experience and privilege to be able to watch the battle between a Leopard and a Porcupine. It was so close to my car and it happened so fast that I could not take down the fight. Unfortunately for the Leopard, he lost the fight and had to lick his wounds after the fight.Videos taken on my visits to Kruger National Park in South Africa

I had no idea Porcupines were so large. the quills are massive and can go in so deep in some areas.

kinda surprised the leopard took such a risk and did so much damage to itself. these kinda wounds can be deadly via infection, etc.

This shit doesn't always end well for both. If leopards were communal like lions, they would have easily learned through experience that porcupines are dangerous.

It would survive this, however it would probably be a lesson to the Leopard to not try this ever again. It's lucky that one didn't get it in the eye. The Porcupine is quite the amazing defensive animal. Here in Australia we have a smaller thing called the echidna that has a similar evolution.
