At long last, Cowboy Bebop fans have finally been given a trailer for the live-action Netflix Cowboy Bebop series. And if there's one takeaway from this new footage, it's that we've seen it all before. From familiar locales to iconic bounty hunters and villains, let's dive into the trailer with this Cowboy Bebop trailer breakdown and examine why this series is sticking much closer to the source material than fans might have been expecting.

John Cho's Spike Spiegel is clearly being positioned as the central character of the live-action Bebop series, just as he was in the anime. The Bebop trailer tells us pretty much everything we need to know about Spike. He's a suave bounty hunter, he's a master of Jeet Kune Do, and he doesn't get along with people like Danielle Pineda's Faye Valentine - people who threaten his bottom line.

But the Cowboy Bebop Netflix series trailer also makes a number of references to Spike's shadowy past as a member of the criminal organization known as the Syndicate... For all the details, clues, and references we found to the original anime in this trailer, check out our full Netflix Cowboy Bebop analysis and reaction video!

You missed a crucial detail in the trailer: Faye Valentine steels Spike's personal ship (not the BeBop). She flies by with the dog, Ein, and Spike and Jet see her. She means them to see her. That also explains why Spike wants to kill her.

Spike also seemed to have implied "Spike Spiegel" is not his real name in this universe.

Maybe after this series Kanno will finally get her well deserved recognition. She is a talented composer who should have been getting work in Hollywood back in the day.

"Whatever happens, happens" is a reference to episode 19, when spike ran out of gas while entering earth atmosphere, he lighted up a cigarette and said that, and again later on that same episode.

I’m kinda hoping Ed is animated, it would fit with the crazy of the show.

FYI, @IGN the producers for Cowboy Bebop have stated that Ed is coming and she will be coming probably in season 2, since Ed showed up later in the anime series.

The thing that stood out to me the most was Spike implying that his name wasn't originally Spike Spiegel.

Netflix version will have Spike survive the final battle. And Ed will be an AI. LOL

4:42 you can clearly see Vicious and a "Red Dragon" Spike (with a ponytail) more likely a flashback.

I’d be hoping for Ed to be in the trailer but no Edward the hacker. She’s a memorable support character in the anime

Spike would never hold a gun to Faye’s head. This is already proof of how bad this is gonna go.

All the backlash is probably why ed hasn't been seen yet so that child actress doesn't get attacked by the negative people

keanu reeves would have been perfect for this role

You missed that Spike Speigel is not his real name in this series. When in the anime, it has always been Spike Speigel.
