Java is laggier because it runs in a runtime environment, at least from my experiences.
Bedrock, however... runs great, even on max render distance.
But I think Java is better because it has a larger modding community.

When I was in Bedrock, I got more easier to get tridents so it's kinda no problem to me

UPD: I forgot to mention that I'm almost exclusively play Java edition, for me it feels more comfortable, but of course different people have different opinions. I wrote this comment just for lulz, but it blew up and I am sorry for this

My only problem for Java is that it's harder to run though, and for Bedrock is that dual wielding is not fully functional. They're both good in their own ways though.
