The mucus plug and bloody show are signs that your body is getting ready for labor. When the cervix starts to dilate, the small capillaries break and drops of blood is released that will cause the mucus plug to be called bloody show.

Bloody show can be a sign that labor is approaching, but it doesn't always mean that labor is starting. Seeing bloody show does not require notifying your care provider or going to the hospital, but if you see bloody show before you are 37 weeks pregnant you should notify your provider.
