I use a second-hand 57 with the Shure A2WS windscreen for a warm SM7b-esque vocal - it takes some work, but at 10x cheaper than the SM7B, it'll do for a hobby producer like me

i recently tried the SM58 and I actually preferred the 57. Especially for male vocals, the 57 has a really nice effect of picking up the lower-midrange and nice clarity. I just use a foam microphone thing to control plosives. Def recommend 57 for male vocals, it is a budget-friendly vocal mic if you are just starting out.

Tangent: One of Morrison's favorite mics (for stage performance) was the EV-676, but used a Neuman in the studio... I forget exactly which one.
