Please enjoy these simple recordings and feel free to give suggestions and requests! Thumbs up?... What did you like? Thumbs down?... What can I change for you?

Would you like to request hymns for this channel? Feel free to do that in the comment sections of these videos. Here's the guidelines for that:
1.) Limit 2 per person (feel free to request 2 more when yours are posted)
2.) Only public domain hymns (Pre-1923)
3.) Include author/composer and date of composition
4.) Be patient. This is one of many hobbies of mine and not a full time job. It may take a few weeks to a couple years to get yours done.

Would you like to *legally* download these hymns AND support this channel?

Don't need digital downloads but STILL want to support this channel?

Keep in mind that the main purpose of these videos is to help folks learn harmony parts to hymns and not to sound perfect. These recordings will sound a touch raw for a few reasons; I am not a trained singer, I am using very simple recording hardware, my recording 'studio' is a couple of spare mattresses set on end to eliminate unwanted sound reverberations.

If you enjoy the way that these hymns are sang and want to experience them in person, stop by just about any church of Christ and they'll likely be singing them the same way. Without instruments.

My recording process:
-Record each part on a Rode NT1-A to a Zoom H4 recorder
-Some pitch correction in Melodyne
-Mix in Mixcraft 6
-Combine audio and sheet music in Corel VideoStudio X7

I currently struggle with sin but I’ve gotten hold of the Truth, the King James Bible and its believers. Jesus showed me to Bryan Denlinger on YouTube and later just last year, Jacob M. Thompson. I give Jesus the glory and the credit for finding Bryan Denlinger. I didn’t get saved right away and God still has a mess with me, but the seeds were planted and Jesus freed me. I sing this hymn to Jesus as a thank you and a praise.

Oh holy night

1,
Oh holy night,
The stars are brightly
shining, it is the night
of our dear Savior's birth
Long lay the world

2,
In sin and error pining
Till he appeared and the soul
Felt it's worth, a thrill of Hope
The weary world rejoices
For yonder break's
A new and glorious morn

Fall on your knees
Oh Hear The Angel voices
Oh night Divine,
Oh night when
Christ was born
Oh night Divine
Oh night Divine
Oh night Divine

3,
Truly He taught us
To love one another
His law is love and
his Gospel is Peace
Chains shall he break
For the slave is our brother
And in his name
All oppression shall cease

4,
Sweet hymns of joy
In grateful chorus raise we
Let all within us
praise his holy name

Christ is the Lord
Oh praise his name forever
His power And Glory
Evermore proclaim

His power And Glory
Evermore proclaim

I love this hymn. Perfect Christmas hymn and Silent Night comes in second place to me.

It may seem shocking, but this song was actually incredibly controversial when it was created. This song was written in the 1850’s, a few years before the civil war, anti-slavery movements were still on the fringe, violence had already broken out between slavers and Abolitionists out in the western territories, and many supporters of slavery claimed that slavery was divine in nature, that it was a gift of Providence to white civilization. So for a Unitarian minister to essentially say “Christ was an Abolitionist” was an incredibly risky thing to do. Unfortunately, but also not surprisingly, verse three (which deals with this subject directly) is the most of edited out verse of later subjects.

There are countless renditions of this song - The secular world loves the tune, especially when it's sung in languages other than English - but verse 2 is now almost ALWAYS omitted because it's now seems to be considered more controversial than verse 3 (perhaps because it proclaims Jesus as King of kings worthy of true worship. As a song leader who can't read sheet music, I prepare throughout the week by listening to videos to make sure my melody/harmony & lyrics are spot on without constantly looking down at a hymnal or staring at the TV monitor on Sunday. Very difficult to do this without videos like this that stay true to the original. You, @acappellahymns, are a Godsend. Thank you .

READ THE LYRICS!! Modern "Christian/Christmas music has nothing on this. If Jesus is the "reason for the season", then this is his anthem. 🌹😇

No worries for a repost. You sang really well. I still say what I had said earlier. I would love to help you out in singing bass and/or Tenor but am not able to. Distance is an issue. But I can constantly remember you in prayer that you may grow immensely.

Thank you for recording this! This is the same arrangement from Howard's Songs of Faith and Praise, isn't it? I've always struggled to sight read this song but this recording helps tremendously!
