When I was a kid my mom made apple butter. It's called "butter" probably because of its
consistency.. Making it is the same process of peeling, slicing, and cooking apples on the stove to make applesauce, but then cooking it much longer to yield a thicker, richer almost carmelized product. With the right spices added, sooo good!

Little does Ollie know, you _can_ actually milk an apple, but what makes apple butter such a rare treat is that not all apples have nipples. Finding one that does, getting it to hold still for the milking, churning the milk, all that takes time!

30 years ago, I used to work third shift security in a building with a Cheryl's cookie on the main level. At about 6:00 a.m. they would start baking their cinnamon rolls. Every one of the 20 security guards would get several cinnamon rolls per week. I think I gained 10 lb at that job.

When I was a kid, my granny would bake sourdough bread and for an after school snack, I would cut a thick slice of bread, toast it, then cut a slot along the top of the toast, fill it with apple butter and eat it like a pita pocket. It was one of my favorite snacks.

Apple butter: chop about 2 dozens apples, even the seeds and peels, cook in large slow cooker with cinnamon and brown sugar. Puree with immersion blender. That's all.

When my kids would oversleep for school I would make magic toast. It's toast with peanut butter and apple butter with a little cinnamon sugar on top. They could roll it in half and eat it on their way to the bus and they would get their protein in their fruit for the day. Now they're all grown and apple butter is a staple and all of their houses
