Regarding the fitting of smoke box number plates: I do believe that this depended on the individual works, despite supposedly "standard" LMS policy (even the "standard", official livery varied, according to where the loco was shopped/painted; Scottish area loco's were famous/notorious for having their own version of the standard/official livery). Crewe (ex-LNWR) and Derby (ex-MR) both had their own version of the official livery. This also included smoke box number plates; the style of the numbers (the font) varied according to which works fitted them. But specifically relating to the presence or absence of the plates; I believe that Crewe works standard practice was to outshop it's locomotive's without any smoke box number plate (checkout any photos you can find of LNWR loco's), whilst Derby works policy was to fit smokebox number plates on every loco it built.

the numbering on the smookebox doors lasted only a few years during the first few years of the lms and was decided not to carrry it on later on

That Beams Tank has quite a presence on the track. Out of interest? Which route was featured here, the old one or the newer one?😉
