Several years ago my wife invited me to a concert and I declined. When she returned she informed that Dr John was added to the show as a surprise opener. I've pondered my error twice a week for the last 15 years.

Hanging with Jamal is always the right place and the right time.

Dr. John, ‘the night tripper’ !
This song was a top ten hit in 1973. That’s why it’s short, 2:55, so it would get played on AM radio stations.

Dr. John was such a HUGE artist and such a funky and truly inventive cat. I have never met anyone that did not love his sound and vibe.

This guy was apparently the inspiration for Dr. Teeth of the Muppets.

That funk is unbeatable. I almost forgot about this gem. Thanks for the reaction.

The live duet of Dr John and Etta James singing “I’d Rather Go Blind” is one of the best live perfomances I’ve ever seen.

He was a guitar player first, but he got one of his fingers shot off and couldn’t play anymore. So he switched to piano and became a legend. I’m pretty sure the entire city of New Orleans showed up to send him home with an epic second line.

I remember dancing to this song when I was 13 years old. I can still dance to it at 62! Yes I can!

As requested, here’s a few other Dr. John songs that you might enjoy:
“Iko Iko”, “Such a Night” and “I Walk on Guilded Splinters”.
The song that you just reacted to was released in 1973.
He was born and raised in New Orleans and you can hear that in his music.
Great singer, songwriter, multi instrumentalist, the guy was a real talent.
His live shows were always outstanding.
Thank goodness that his music lives on.

Dr John played keyboard for the one and only Stevie Ray Vaughan when he performed at Carnegie Hall in October 1984. RIP Stevie Ray and Doc 💔

Jamel you saw him in the Jeff Healey live video “See the Light” playing the piano. Jeff tells him “Help me Dr.” and Doc takes a piano solo and kills it.

This song was released in 1973. Dr. John's background is in blues, pop, jazz, boogie-woogie, funk, and rock and roll. This tune, in my opinion, sounds like a fusion of several genre's and has a touch of a Cajun in it as well.

He played keyboards for Aretha Franklin, the Rolling Stones and Van Morrison.

I first saw him open for the Allman Brothers in 1972. He walked out singing and throwing glitter at the crowd. He was wearing a sequined cape and had the place rockin'!
