The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, received an official welcome at a ceremony at Pyongyang's main square before talks with the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un.

Putin's visit to North Korea is his first in 24 years and comes amid growing concerns about an arms arrangement in which Pyongyang provides Moscow with munitions for its war in Ukraine in exchange for economic and diplomatic support
