In the beginning, all we sold was clothes. Sales were great and we were hooked.
Shipping and replacing 10-20, one off, $15 items each day, was killing me.
We tried to maintain a high of 1700 items but they sold too fast.
Today, I maintain 500-600 higher dollar items. These are "needed" hard goods.
Sourcing is easier too. I have 4 local locations to source from. I do them 2 each week on a rotating basis. (6 hours total each week)
Inventory takes up a lot more space but I can fit it into 2 bedrooms and a portion of my garage.
I only average around 5-10 sales per day now. For the past couple of months my average daily sale price has been over $100 most days.
There was a learning curve and I am still learning. Knowledge is the key.
I probably could be doing more but I am an old "retired" guy having more fun than I deserve. 😆

I totally agree with you. I have a small store but I have great sales. I only sell clothing, mostly new shoes. I spend my time doing research on what’s currently in demand and creating awesome listings. My average sale price is $62 My average profit is $50. My average cost of goods is $10. I’m working on bringing that up. Work smarter not harder

Do you agree this is better to sell quality then to list like crazy?

Thanks for this! Exactly where I needed to be thinking today. I have so much quantity and my sales are awful right now. I’m working on a refocus and restructure plan to generate more income with less time, frustration, and stuff! Appreciate your insight!

I much prefer selling higher quality items. I have about 4, 200 pairs of shoes listed and I would say 1, 000+ are $100 or more. My average sale price is nearly $60. I wouldn’t want to mess with selling $10 clothes in quantity. Definitely not for me but it works for some.

I'm considering getting out of clothes...thinking do whatnot auctions at 1.00 starts, taking that money and buying pallets of long and hard on it...any advice? Good or bad ideal?
I'm checking comps on things right now but these clothes are just to much with everyone selling them now

tl;dr:

Big spending on merch = Big "sales". This is not stuff coming from just hitting a thrift store, just fyi. Not saying these arent items that I dont get from Estate sales and the like, but I dont think this guy is just finding this stuff like that.

Now he just has to pay his staff (and the place they work in), fees, and taxes. Yeah, not looking so great.

Wasnt there just a video on not just looking at gross?

Osborn2Trift is a really nice and legit guy. He's one of those guys who made selling everything successful. He does have to drive a hour away for product but he makes the most of it and he almost exclusively source from Thrift stores and marketplaces. Very honest with his sales, including returns.

I agree with you and but also have the same issues that others have commented below, finding consistent higher priced items. Most of the stuff we find is lower dollar, non-essential items, things that don't sell as well unfortunately. Another thing I have noticed for clothing items. If you find higher-end clothing, it just sits forever and the only offers you get are the worst low-ball offers you can imagine.

Lastly, this year is different. Inflation is stopping many from buying things they don't need hence sales are down for a majority of sellers.

Yeah. Where do you find this kind of merchandise to sell? If you got the hook up, great! But if not where do you go?

If u have time can you please help. I sold a diamond ring for 650.00. Buyer requested return. I had just moved...contacted buyer and requested they update return label. Did not update. Went to my old p.o.address...contacted post office and had on file to forward mail to new address. Called the post office and they assured me they would forward. Didn't happen. Post office returned to buyer. Contacted buyer and sent new pre paid label for return. No response. Ebay refunded 650.00. Filed appeal...declined. I have contacted ebay every day and no help. Do you know a phone number direct for ebay or what would u do? I would appreciate any help.

Why would you want to risk selling expensive items. eBay has only buyer's protection plan and no seller protection plan. They want you to refund buyers even though they returned garbage to you. Because they meaning eBay is not getting the return. So they do not believe the sellers but they believe buyer's. I just got scammed by a buyer on a leather breifcase. He returned something else to me and eBay didn't care about it. Just refund him money because it shows the return arrived.

It's totally a process and you are 100% correct! It takes time, effort, and some great teachers, such as yourself! I'm still new at this and I've been doing this full-time for almost two years now. I'm happy with what I've accomplished so far and I have no intention to stop. So, I'll keep on doing what I'm doing because it's working, and invest more into finding better hauls! 😉 You rock Rockstar! Thank you for all you do!

Around the holidays, I get a lot of requests for upgraded shipping. I've fixed my newer listings to automatically provide upgraded shipping as an option, but my older listings only have the most economical method. (BTW: wouldn't it be nice to be able to examine all your listings package details and shipping options in a .csv file, free from the weird "shipping policy" process that eBay sets up....I think I have 1000+ shipping policies). BUYERS who want upgraded shipping very often buy, pay instantly, and then ask for upgraded shipping. ITs a pain to send a separate PayPal request for the upgrade charge. I wish there was a better way...it's a useless admin run around that only exists because of the eBay software.

Appreciate the info, I have luck with higher volume items that have less profit margin. A lot to do with my area though, definitely try for less items but higher quality but not always an option

I’ll tell you a YouTuber making bank on eBay that people don’t realize is crazeenydriver, selling used hubcaps, check his account, constantly selling 1k gross a day plus ship and buys on the cheap from junkyards and a few suppliers I think, he’s tight lipped on his numbers, in 10 years I’ve never heard him say his numbers, but iam guessing soft netting 15-20k monthly on used hubcaps
That’s a speciality niche that takes lots of knowledge but eBay motors is something more people should look into

I was just saying this to myself the other day. The average consumer searches for item(s) they are looking for. They are not going to shop someone’s store fully of 3000 items . Who has that kind of time.
Amazon is repeat buyers. EBay is mostly 1-2 same buyer.
