Gohan’s whole character is all about balancing out his job, his training and his family life together. Before DBS, we never really got to see this, how someone who wants a normal life could make it work with his job, training and possible family issues. GT was close, but the focus was never meant to be on Gohan or how he’d struggle to balance his life out, it was more on Pan at times than Gohan really since she was someone who needed some kind of character development.

The guy barely trains but is able to go toe to toe with SSB & gets Beast form too. Namek & Cell saga Gohan are my favorites, you see him train and involved in world/universe ending situations!!

Goten and Trunks have a lot of potential, both of them love to fight but are almost always overshadowed by the others. They are also rarely shown as anything but a pair due to their fusion being their strongest form. I would really love to see each get their own character development and become important in their own ways

The only part of this that I disagree with is the idea that Gohan not loving fighting is the reason why he could never be the protagonist. That would just make him a different and arguably more interesting protagonist than Goku. He wouldn't be the first main hero in a story who disliked conflict but has to fight to protect others. That's a trope in itself, as much as the loves to fight guy.

If he wants to protect others, has the most potential, and knows threats can come at any moment then not training is a waste. He doesn't have to train day in and day out like the full bloods but he went from being able to sleep as a super saiyan and later having the mystic power up to not even knowing if he could go super saiyan. That's a waste.

I always knew that Gohan was never wasted potential. I always compared him to Peter Parker aka Spider man and their struggle to balance their normal and super hero lives. I always liked The Great Saiyaman idea too, and it's cool Videl joined in as well. When it comes to Saiyan Earthling only hybrids, Future Trunks and Gohan was always the best to me.

He was being set up to be the protagonist but then Toriyama didn’t feel comfortable writing for a reactive protagonist.
