I remember seeing adverts for this as a kid but never played it! Good explanation. There was another game around this time called Go For Broke, too!

I have the wooden book shaped box variant of the original from 1959 and just have the wooden blocks and spiral type things for the pieces. Unfortunately it was second hand and didnt have a rule book with it

Growing up, this was in my grandparents closet, up on the shelf stacked with the other boardgames. As a small child, I would open the ground map, and use my imagination playing with the game pieces on it. 35 years later, my grandparents are gone, along with the risk board game that was at their house. I really wanted to get to know how to play it, and I wanted the same one that they had, not a different/modern version. So over the last year I would randomly stop at garage sales and second hand stores, looking for that same version, and see if one was for sale. I finally lucked out and got the one from 1975, and it was complete with all the pieces, dice and playing cards inside, and included the instruction sheet too. Boy was I stoked and couldn't wait to get started. After reading the instructions though... this seems a little over my head. I think I'll just stick with shoots and ladders

Best description of the game and the rules I've found. To the point and makes total sense.

I loved the video. I used to play a lot of this when I was 12, but only after pestering my family to let me play. And even so, the only way I had to learn was through watching them play and prove I could do it too after a lot of trial and error. XD

I always found it a bit difficult of a game to get into even though I love it a lot, so I'm really glad there is a video that easy to digest on such a complicated game for beginners. Awesome work!

I have played the Roman numeral version also (1970's)! The re-make in the early 2000's with artillery, infantry and cavalry was a step up when playing with friends a few years later. Alliances were formed and/or broken depending on the friendship or how close our territories were, Lol.

Hey, I guess you can attack the same area twice in the same turn? And what about attacking with more than three, how does that work? Basically what if you invade with 5 armies, a country that is defended by 3.
Do you have to keep attacking until all your armies are lost or until you have taken that area? How does that work?

When an army is defeated in battle, do you return the losing army pieces to the losing owner or are they discarded completely from re-entering gameplay?

So from the beginning, there is no terittory card given to the player? Player just put their soldier wherever they want?

Question about fortifying; when you move troops at the end of a turn, can you move them through multiple adjacent territories or just one?

My Risk comes with 3 attack dye and 2 defence dye. But what if I have 5 armies attacking and 3 defending?
