I honestly liked the comica straight out of camera better. The rode did sound great but I wouldn’t pay the difference and would just go for the comica.

Sound wise I think the Comica with no adjustments was the best sound of the whole video. Normally all of the Think Media sound is very good, but it seemed a bit muffled with the adjustments. The Rode was a very close second though.

The Deity D4 mini would also be a good alternative to the Rode. It's $50 but also has an input for a lav mic.

The best tool for vlogging for me is my iphone! Because I’m new at vlogging and I didn’t know what I needed to start, I followed all the advice I saw here on youtube: I bought 2 sony a6400 (because they said, it’s better to have 2 cameras so you can have 2 angles 😅); I bought an expensive gimball that never ever worked!; I bought quite a few tripods, lots of sd cards, lots of extra batteries, and so many other crap, and a $300 video editor. I learned how to use all these stuff, but I learned that the workflow is very slow if you have so many tools and you don’t have anybody else to help you: batteries don’t last very long, so you have to carry so many extras wherever you go; you also have to carry extra memory cards; then you have to transfer all your clips to your computer, so you can edit them, and if you’ve been taking 4k clips the files are so big that it’s difficult to do the editing in your laptop, so you’ll be strapped to your desktop to do the editing, and editing takes a long time. A beautiful, cinematic video doesn’t also guarantee that people would want to watch them. Companies spend a lot of money to produce their beautiful, top notch commercials, but we don’t want to watch them 🤷.
Because the workflow was so slow for me, and I was bogged down by so many tools I had to carry with me all the time, I struggled to put out content. It was unsustainable. Then I just thought to play around with my iphone, and it worked! All I needed was my phone that is attached to a small phone holder as a tripod, that’s it. I film, I edit (and I can edit anywhere, even in the toilet!), and I upload through my phone now, and that made me put out content faster. Personally, I don’t really watch a video because the images are so crisp or the audio was superb (duh, commercials have the best videos, but we hate to watch them!), I watch a youtube video because of the story or if it’s a tutorial, because of the info. So, in my opinion, what’s more important is to learn to be a better storyteller. Tools are nice to have, but they will not make you a better vlogger, just like a superb typewriter will not make you a good writer.

I personally go with an external lav mic plugged into a small external recorded that I put in my pocket. You then sync and voila! Sure, more annoying to sync BUT you can move away from the GoPro and still have great audio :) Also, I could use my external wireless system (like Rode does) which is another alternative so you don't have to sync in post.
