We’re about to explore 5 terrible, and 5 amazing drinks. Discover what to drink, and what not to drink, for the best blood sugar control.

1) Sugar-free drinks may sound healthy, but these drinks tend to be high in fat and usually contain artificial sweeteners. Artificial sweeteners could actually worsen your insulin resistance.

2) Fruit juice looks healthy, becomes it comes from fruit. But when the liquid from fruit is removed, the high sugar content remains, while the fiber gets left behind. This means that pure fruit juice could skyrocket your blood sugar only minutes after drinking.

3) Iced coffee drinks should, in theory, be healthy - if they are simply black coffee with ice. But store-bought and pre-packaged iced coffee drinks are usually loaded with cream, sugar, and other unhealthy chemicals. Many of these drinks to be over 500 calories.

4) Energy and sports drinks seem to work well for athletes, but that's because they were DESIGNED for athletes. If you're not getting a lot of physical activity, the high sugar and caffeine content won't do you any favors.

5) Soft drinks are filled to the brim with sugar. But even if you opt for sugar-free versions, they'll still be loaded with artificial sweeteners and other unhealthy additives and preservatives.

6) Pomegranate juice is actually one fruit juice which could help you manage your fasting glucose levels. Pomegranates contain unique polyphenol antioxidants which have been shown to reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease.

7) Coffee, on its own, contains an array of beneficial nutrients, including vitamin B2. This antioxidant has been shown to fight oxidative damage.

8) Vegetable smoothies will keep the fiber content, along with the vast variety of nutrients contained within veggies. Try celery, spinach, or carrot smoothies. You can add some flavor by including a small helping of fruit.

9) Many varieties of tea can supply a ton of positive health. Teas contain powerful antioxidant polyphenols, and have been shown to reduce insulin resistance.

10) Plain old water is still the best drink in the world. It's the best option to keep you hydrated, and when you drink enough water, your body can eliminate excess glucose through your urine.

*My daughter drinks lots of water and urinates with the same rate, there are no other symptoms to show if those have anything to do with diabetes. This is a good information that I have gone through **Diabets.Care** She is 2 years 9 months, hale and healthy, have not done any blood test. But I am not certain if one can get diabetes at such a tender age. Please I will like to know more on that*

I have found out drinking black coffee and green tea if you stick with it you get used to it and when you try a sip of cola or any soft drink it tastes to sweet

I'm not sure about carrots and beets for diabetics. They contain loads of sugar. Basically any vegetable that grows underground should be avoided. Any veg that grows above ground...eat as much as you want.

if i could just get water to taste somewhat as good as soda without the artificial sweeteners and the chemicals. adding fruit seems good but very very expensive and time consuming. i guess i should just drink cold water.

The hardest thing for me to quit is soft drinks (soda). I can go two or three days then I cave and have a 12 oz can of my favorite soda. Other then that, I drink the stuff listed in the good list. Except coffee. I've tried it off and on for many years but I just can't get past the taste. If it tasted as good as fresh ground coffee smells, I would be totally addicted.

I used to be pre diabetic and then I just stopped drinking soft drinks cold turkey. Now I mainly drink water, tea and black coffee. Only once in a blue moon I'll have a soft drink.
