Just like book the bugs were suppose to have suction cup feet but it was quickly removed for unexplained reasons.

Jim was such an annoying character. He was utterly useless and caused more problems. Him screaming and panicking at the drugstore brought all of those spiders out, and here turning on the lights attracted all of those flying creatures. I know he was shaken up after the death of the bag boy, but he literally became one of the worst people to be next to in such a situation, and definitely wasn't someone who could be trusted with any kind of responsibility. He then became a loyalist of Carmody and was actually trying to kill David and his son. The fact that after everything he'd done he survived just adds to the harsh realism of "no karma in the real worlds" that the film presents.
