What an honor. To have Steve Vai realize the moment that heavy music changed and it was Korn's Brian and Munky.

Fun fact, Vai originally made the 7 string with an additional thinner string so he could go higher. Only there was a problem, the string kept snapping off, so he and Ibanez decided to go for a lower string rather than a higher one.

Steve is always the most authentic and humble in every interview I've seen of his.

Steve is just the humblest, most empowering guy. Really comes across as so comfortable in his own skills that he doesn't need to knock anyone else down.

Man he really is a class act. He’s seems so humble and likable here rather than just saying that korn would never have been where they are without him, he just really wants to convey how much it meant to him that they wanted to play with his guitar and how much he loved hearing them do it.

John Petrucci used a 7-string on the Awake album, same year Korn's first album came out. I couldn't believe how much deeper and full it sounded. Changed the sound forever

If that guy keeps practicing guitar and works really hard he might be famous someday.

I was blown away first listening to Korn sound as a kid. You can imagine what MESHUGGAH did to me later on.

The praise that Steve gives to big time artists that any other virtuoso would look past is just inspiring and you are lifted by Steve's optimistic view of the music world.

I still remember hearing and watching the video to 'Suicidal Tendencies - You can't bring me down', and listening in awe to the 7 string lead break. Good old days.
Cheers.

I remember when the Jen 777 came out. He said the same thing back then and he was correct. In 1990 no one was playing like Korn.

Love his approach to music, it’s been consistent since his come up: Always respect your fellow musician.

It's crazy to think how much influence on artistic exploration is due to often arbitrary limitations of our instruments

It’s actually what made me want to start playing guitar!

As Steve was talking I was literally thinking “I think Korn was the first band I heard use a 7”, and then he says Korn. Wild shit😂, still love Korn to this day.

I thought the same thing.
Since I was 16 when Passion and Warfare was released I watched Korn pick it up and all the rest of it evolve.
I’m still watching.
