I have learned to appreciate a good I6 (Inline 6 cylinder) engine. Like the one in my 1985 Toyota Cressida.

In 1998 I bought a V-6 Honda Accord sedan for my wife and that engine worked like a charm, never any problems. The fit and finish of the interior with the widespread use of cheap plastic left something to be desired but the car was good overall.

Scotty definitely is not fond of the 4 cylinder turbos that are out into the larger vehicles that should have the V-6

Scotty, I finally took your advice and I bought a 2011 Toyota Avalon Limited and I am going to sell my endless money pit 2008 Mercedes E-350. I wish that I knew about your channel before I bought the Mercedes. I probably put $9000 into a car that I paid $11, 500 for two years ago. I was hoping to hold onto it until I hit 200, 000 miles on it, but I cant stand the thought of not knowing when my next $2, 500 repair is around the corner. It is time to cut my losses and start fresh with another car. Thanks for everything that you do.

Adding to Scotty's suggestion, going with Honda's 2.0L engine is much better than 1.5L turbo for Civics

Nah. V6 for me. Especially on a bigger car. Seen V6 cars with 250, 000+ miles on them with the 4 cylinder versions needing a rebuild at 150, 000 miles. The V6 doesn't have to work as hard to move the car around. If you don't dog them out and maintain them then 9 times of of 10 the 4 banger don't last as long.

4 cylinder. Model T Ford. Offenhauser 270. Ford 2.3 Lima. Greatest engines of all time. The offy can still make over 1000hp. Nearly 100 year old design

Yes do agree a naturally aspirated engine would always be better/affordable to own long term than a vehicle with a turbo.
Saab and other brands in GM's portfolio that they failed to.. could be a topic Mr. Scotty can discuss in his other channel - autonauts garage.

If it is ticking, smoking or knocking . Dont buy it .Ask to start it cold .Feel on the engine to see if its warm . The only ticking car I will buy is a flat tappet overhead cam one.

In a longitudinal layout like in a 4Runner the V6 is better, though I4s are still ok in this layout. In a transverse layout like in a RAV4 the I4 is better. Transverse V6s and V8s are very difficult to work on and should be avoided.

I have a 2016 Buick Encore that's great. Built for a turbo from the ground up so it will last.
