Alder Lake is Intel's first performance hybrid CPU, combining Performance-core and Efficient-core into a scalable SoC. Thread Director dynamically and intelligently helps the OS assign threads to the right cores for maximum performance.

Alder Lake is a revolution for music producers. It's crazy how much responsive a DAW or a system feels and the amount of overhead removed for the serial and real time nature of audio.

so the main reason behind this is better power efficiency at low system demand

Hope Intel will stick to this Thread Director thing, unlike RealSense or XDK which Intel abandon

so its a glorified control unit communicating with the OS for the cpu package as a whole?

Well, gen 11 have avx512 support but gen 12 haven't. Thank you, Intel. Also, special thanks for x51 multiplier for avx2. It was a big Christmas miracle for my brand new 12900k. Will bring it back to shop.

I am curious about how hypervisor makes decisions depending on data provided by the thread director. Can I still achieve thread pinning or say click a button on hyper V and tell windows to run this VM on performance cores?
how does frameworks like spdk play a role here?

Looks promising, let's see what will be delivered as a final product and where and how the competition will react/act.

She is speaking as if moving threads to other cores is such an easy task. It is not, all the prefeched instructions, all microops has to be trowed away and all cache request will be missed in the beginning. It seem to me that branch predictor will not be so accurate in the beginning of the thread execution.

Got discount Sundar Pichai to present 😬

Thr M1 has a couple of advantages over the alderlake, boot time and stuff, but i think intels next cpu has the potential of maximizing the performance of the alderlake

Intels focus on Slices/Tile base deign is pretty cool, now I see why they critizied gluing

How does it know which threads need less power? Some services in Windows 10 generate massive CPU loads, such as telemetry, Windows Security (defender), etc. How good are those heuristics?

So all those ''Leaked'' alder lake benchmarks worked on OS without all needed updates to fully unleash its performance, as expected.

I am VERY excited for this line of CPUs. Hopefully I'm not disappointed by the pricing.

3:45 That's what i wanted to hear, no questions to Alder Lake from me, what a revolutionary cpu its going to be, so technologically advanced, incredible

What about Linux kernel?? Linux is the future technology. Though I know that Linux kernel has already been patched for alder lake compatibility, it would be better to know more about these patches.

Thank you

so the gracemont atom even stronger then skylake core.
what is skylake core?
i3 6100 (3.7ghz), i5 6500(3.5ghz) i7 6700k(4ghz)

i have i3 6100, i7 8700k, i9 10900k .actually, they all base on skylake.
but i think intel this comparison is compare to 6th gen, the original skylake.

Once the issues with P/E cores are worked out, I would like to see future processors with different mix of P and E, including some with few P and very many E cores. If you want ordinary uses to benefit from multi-core, how about a properly multi-threaded compression (zip/unzip). It should have to implement different strategies for single large files vs. many small files. Recognize and bypass files already in (potentially different) compressed format. Ability to use multiple available drives for source, destination and working space could avoid SSD bathtub effect.

As long as this 12th gen also supports DDR5 then I'll buy it

intel: we want this to work with existing software
thread director: oh so u mean windows 11 and nothing else?
