Birdies Steel Raised Garden Beds Now in USA

Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane - the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. So I'm in South Africa, and have a similar climate to you in Aus I believe. Since I found your channel I've been telling my wife how great these would be in our small garden area. While Birdies doesn't have a branch/ship to SA, I have done some googling and found a company that offers a similar product. Will definitely be looking at getting myself some of these.

Thanks so much for this information Mark! I’ve been using livestock watering tanks for our beds. I’m not in my wheelchair full time but these beds would really assist in gardening from a wheelchair! Even on the good days I’ve gotta watch my back. I’ve shared this video with a Facebook group I’m in for Disabled Gardeners. We don’t plan on giving up until at least 2 hours after the doctors say we’re dead! Cheers!

One nice thing about a high raised bed is that it creates a slightly warmer micro-climate in the winter as cold air sinks. It won't let you raise tropical plants in Alaska, but it might turn a hard freeze into a light freeze and a light freeze into no freeze at all.

just got my first two beds, really pleased with the quality. putting it together solo required a bit of planning and I had to pay attention to how the top edge lined up, flipping top to bottom for a couple of panels to get them lined up perfectly. I dug a few holes under where the edge stands and filled them with gravel to make sure they could drain, put the best weed block I could find next, then a bit of hügelkultur a la SSMe.
