Breaking news: Amazon did not pay taxes in 2017 & 2018.
Enough is enough end corporate welfare and invest in hardworking new yorkers.

Not enough substance here, Morning Joe. I live 1800 miles from Queens. I want to HEAR from LOCAL people. I want to SEE AOC and Susan debate their arguments face to face. I have absolutely no doubt that "Amazon will be fine." That is why I am more concerned with what's best for the common PEOPLE.

Should title this episode “Corporate shills freak out.”

Jobs are vital, but being held as hostage to major corporate greed is ridiculous. Tax incentives are for smaller companies who actually care about their employees, not for one of the richest companies worldwide. Amazon would move to another State as soon as they can if they offer more in tax incentives.
The American people are fed up with funding corporate greed, and bare minimum wage jobs are not good.

The representative for the district agrees with AOC. What Amazon did was essentially blackmail the state. They wanted special treatment, $3 billion in tax breaks that no other company gets in the district. It also hasn't cost Queen's 25, 000 jobs because 90-95% of those jobs would not be filled by people from Queen's. A vast number of Queen's residents would actually be forced to leave due to rising rent and house prices too so it harms the residents not helps them, it will basically import people from outside of Queen's to work in the new HQ and push current residents out.

Who believe that they were going to create 25000 jobs? Not a single corporation that has promise those types of job has lived up to that promise.

New York City is already one of the most expensive cities to live in the world. In Seattle, the rent grew, homelessness grew and the city was changed forever. It is now too expensive to live there for non-Amazon staff and employees. Would this have happened in Queens? How about the fact they would not have to pay taxes for a period of time. One more thing, Amazon, like Netflix don't pay any taxes to the federal government. Why is that?

It was too much tax breaks for Rich, rich Amazon & Bozo. How about "him" helping fix the subways in NY. He's got the money. Yes these poor people want jobs but the pay and benefits are not a fair working wage. He was preying on the poor and disadvantaged. Sure he wants to make money but at what "real" cost?

Is this the same company that had workers on welfare because they paid them so low?

It isn't economic ignorance, it's fact based economics. Amazon didn't want to build in New York to provide jobs, they wanted to build there for tax breaks and access to workers. Why should a BIG corporation, whose CEO is the richest man in America, be provided huge tax breaks over small or local businesses? That's subsidizing wealthy corporations against their smaller competitors.

Basic economics, Joe? Please educate yourself on the term "race to the bottom" and have a look at wage rates, and Amazon's tax record.

I don't get it. Why are you staunchly defending Amazon? Maybe I'm wrong, but I think the wealthiest man + company on the planet can surely afford to set up shop wherever they like WITHOUT tax incentives.

Reminds me how economically right wing msnbc actually is. Aoc didn't scupper this deal. Amazon changed their mind. Maybe amazon should pay the normal corporation tax before they start getting special tax breaks.

“We could invest that 3 billion in our district ourselves if we wanted to.”
WRONG. The 3 billion was a tax break on the 27 billion Amazon was projected to pay NYC government over the next decade.
You COULD have had 27 billion but now you don’t even have 3 billion.. you have ZERO because Amazon left and took 100% of the potential tax revenue with it.
Not knowing the difference between a tax deduction and a tax credit should be a disqualifying factor for congress.
What a mess.

It's scary how ignorant she is ... NY state and city were not writing a check to Amazon, NY was offering Amazon a tax break on the taxes of $20 billion Amazon would have paid. Now New York has $20 billion to $30 billion less for teachers and infrastructure.
