after driving Jeeps since '83, I've discovered that you shouldn't run into obstacles.

My biggest concern is lack of rear side-impact airbags for passengers. Being tall I also prefer knee airbags for front.

Yeah, when I'm cruising down the highway at 80 with my top and doors off safety is my biggest concern....

In 2015 my wife and I were on the way to work when a Ford Escort lost control and hit us broad side in my 2011 Jeep Wrangler. The only damage to my Jeep was the lower trim on the drivers door and factory running board. Total cost for repairs $300. The entire front of the Ford Escort was damaged and was told it was totaled. We fixed my Jeep and traded in for a 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon. From that day on my wife and I stick with the Jeep and its safety. We also purchased a special ordered Jeep Gladiator Rubicon and love it!! John

Just watched a video of new Wrangler and Bronco doing the same test, Wrangler had same result tipping over and sliding till it hit rear wall. Another glaring difference was no rear airbags in the Wrangler and the whiplash was far more severe than the Bronco, anyone who carts passengers around in the back of a Jeep with no protection especially knowing its habit of rolling over needs a wake up call.

Great impartial view. Really well done. I am a long time Jeep owner and I always caution people when they ask about owning a Jeep. It’s a street legal off-road vehicle and not a minivan.

I do like the fact TFL is international...with videos from both the US and Canada. THanks folks for knowing we're up here and into vehicles too!

🤣 all the jeep owners making excuses and saying they don't care about safety. We've got some badasses in here

My Jeep’s height, and ability to roll safely saved my life this weekend. Thats enough of a test for me!

Also, in the real world, there was breaking and swerving involved, so I did not hit my obstacle (person ran a 2 way stop) dead on. I did get launched through a hydro pole, and passenger and I walked out scratch free.

They are taller, offroad capable vehicles built with a massive roll bar...so yes they have a higher chance of tipping/rolling over. I'd like to see a test showing how effective the rool cage is.

Great video, but your conclusion at the end missed one big point. The addition of rear seat airbags would not compromise the Jeep's off-road ability. I would buy a Jeep Gladiator in a heartbeat if they had airbags in the back; without them I cannot justify the risk of someone running a red light and t-boning me when I am hauling my family around.

My question is how much energy was transferred to the crash dummy in each scenario. So it rolled, survivability is what counts for me

One of my best friends was killed in a hit and run. He drove a 2016 wrangler and was hit by someone running a light. His Jeep rolled and he was killed almost immediately. However, the roll cage would have saved his life as it still held its structure even turned over. My buddy, Zach, was not buckled up. Lesson being, never underestimate the safety of a seatbelt and always drive defensively. Be safe out there fellas.

I know this was an older video, but I'm just catching up on your guys offroad channel. I wanted to say this about Jeep's response to this incident (I drive Ram Trucks so I have no dog in this fight).

When I was in High School in 1999 I have a 1985 Dodge Diplomat. I experienced this exact collision. I was coming into an exaggerated S curve as a drunk driver in a 92 Camaro was exiting it. Right before she hit me with all 4 wheels in my lane and me half off the road, as I closed my eyes I was centered in her headlights. Her vehicle went right down the side of my frame and both myself and my passenger exited the drivers side of the vehicle unscathed. It was almost the perfect 25% head on. Her vehicle spun off similar to what you see in the 4 runner you showed. Mine just kind of plowed through.

The idea that this kind of crash "doesn't represent what Jeeps sees in the real world" is corporate bs speak imo.

Side note: I loved my 92 Wrangler.

Although it tipped over there was a much less abrupt stop, I would much prefer to face this than the Ranger crash test example. That one was a brutal stop.

Just a little note, Jeeps did previously offer side airbags. They were an option since 2007. Also, the side airbags are not in the base of the seat, the are up and down the side torso area of the seat. They bust out through the stitches.

As a Canadian living in Europe, I agree with the Euro NCAP results, our posted speed limit on the highways are 140KPH, on our two lane road it is 110KPH, the fact that this test was done at 64KPH which is basically in town driving. Makes the Jeep not not ideal for anything other then trips in town.
