How the CPU cheated you in Street Fighter 2

Everyone who has played Street Fighter 2 will have experienced at least one of the things featured in this video.

Some of the stuff, like the CPU becoming invincible might not be so obvious. Maybe it happens and you just think the CPU attack 'beat' yours. However, going through these events frame by frame, it becomes clear the extent to which the CPU will cheat.

If you want to help support my channel:

There was an article on this subject a while ago. It's awesome and goes deep into the actual AI of SF2 and how unfair it is. You can find it right here...

Yeah, my brother would always yell, "The games Cheating" and throw the controller at the wall & it appears he wasn't crazy after all.

My childhood has been scarred by how many times Guile walked forward and instantly transitions to Somersault without crouching.

And people looked at us crazy when we said the computer was cheating...

When I saw the title, I knew the charging thing would be in here. That always angered me; especially when Balrog would rush punch the hell out of you with no charging.

It’s as if a million souls all cried out at once “I blocked that!”

All the times i yelled at the screen "bullshit! I blocked that!", have finally been validated.

I remember imagining the cpu had its own controller except the buttons were each assigned to a special move

CPU doesn't care. Even in a collection, it wants your quarters.

I remember screaming that the computer cheated, and my parents saying "computers can't cheat"

Fightning against another player was considered true play in Street Fighter 2. Fight against the CPU was more like learning AI patterns and not actual fighting, because the AI did things that normal players should not be able to do, but the AI was so buggy that you could take advantage of it.

If only those who’ve said “Calm down, it’s only a game” back then knew how it was actually an heroic coup d’état against a corrupt system…

So, all those times as a kid in the arcade yelling " THE F*CKING COMPUTER CHEATED ", I was actually right?! 🤔

You forgot to talk about one more thing.

The damage scaling on a Player 1 Normals/Specials are completely different from a CPU Normal/Specials.

A crouching heavy kick or a standing medium punch can do more damage than 5 chip fireballs.

One Dee Jay Machinegun Upper can take almost your entire life bar.

It's incredibly stupid.

CPU: "You need more coins to defeat me. Go home and get family coins."

Don't forget when Zangeif grabs you from out of his actual reach.

Finally with all the evidence we have we can arrest SF2 for it's crimes.... maybe it might just break out faster than humanly possible.

Even with a turbo controller holding down ALL the buttons and mashing the D-Pad, I could still never manage to get that many hits from the grab-type throws. On the hardest difficulty the CPU would sometimes break free of the grab before it could even hit once.

My favorite "cheating by not charging" moments were when I'd hear Guile saying "Sonic-- Sonic Boom!" as he interrupted throwing one sonic boom with another sonic boom. Cuz like... yeah, you can't do that.
