Lexus is developing a normal gearbox for electric cars.

Lexus has confirmed that it is working on a normal gearbox replica for future electric cars. The technology wants to simulate the feel of a conventional normal-gear in a fully electric car.

Lexus Electrified's chief engineer Takashi Watanabe, says the concept of a normal-gear electric car began with a conversation between Lexus engineers about what they like in cars that use traditional combustion engines.

Although the torque of the electric motor makes it harder to operate a simulated ordinary gearbox, Lexus supports the vision of team of engineers Takashi Watanabe suggests that the project is "a lot of fun" which has been in progress for 3 years. Importantly, this technology is not meant for entertainment. Only LIVE as Takashi Watanabe hints "could apply to some of our future electric cars."

Lexus has used a normal gearbox simulated against its fully electric Lexus UX300e prototype car. From a video released during the official presentation, it shows a satisfying sound every time gear shift coupled with the simulated engine sound.

The original electric car came with 3 pedals, a functional gear and a lap count, which obviously has nothing to do with the lap speed of an electric motor. Lexus also installed a simulated transmission system so the driver has to step on the clutch every time they change. The car will stop working and the simulations of the internal ignition engine are played on the speakers, making gear shift easier for the driver.

This is not the first time a normal transmission has been incorporated into a power transmission. As the Opel Manta GSE Elektromod is an electric concept car with this same function. However, Lexus may be the first automaker to import a production line, at least for features. Complimentary for some future electric cars.

Lexus is building a new global headquarters in Shimoyama, Japan, where the company's designers and engineers will "work side by side in the living room and on the test field." Lexus said. The goal of the new power technology is "more than just improve efficiency. It not only improves energy use and reduces emissions, but also provides higher levels of performance, dynamics and driver engagement."

Other driver-focused technologies Lexus is working on include One Motion Grip, steer-by-wire and Direct4 systems introduced in the new Lexus RZ 450e, whose steer-by-Wire system will reduce the mechanical connectivity between the steering wheel and wheels, improving agility, stability. Control while providing greater separation between driving modes. The Direct4 system brings advanced torque distribution ability to all 4 wheels for optimal control depending on the condition.

Lexus' engineering apex will be incorporated into the real production version of the Electrified Sport concept car, which will be the brand's flagship model. Lexus CEO Koji Sato previously referred to the car as "a showcase for the future of Lexus' driving performance." This shows the driving character of Lexus overall."

Lexus Electrified Sport will be the electric supercar that follows LFA's success with a GT3 race-car chassis that will feature a fierce suspension setup, advanced battery technology, a solid-state battery, a powerful electric motor and a 0-100 km acceleration rate. /watch In about 2 seconds
