As someone who wants to be a writer, I tend to keep my ideas in a notebook so I have a sense of continuity and to remember in case I forget something. Do the 'writers' of Discovery not have one or am I just a weirdo?

That's a problem they keep running into. They give their characters toys that are too powerful and the writers aren't skilled enough to write around these powerful toys. So they either arbitrarily limit their power to fit the plot which undermines their worldbuilding, or they don't even realize using it was an option in which case the characters look stupid.

I said the same when they introduced the personal transporters.

On the flip side they introduced the pointless programmable matter and then didn't use it for anything that couldn't already be done with a replicator and/or hologram.

The old writers could maintain continuity better between series than these fools can between episodes.

Spores were such a dumb idea for Star Trek.

Not only the entire universe but the entire *multiverse* according to one of the latter episodes of S1

They change continuity every week to make up a problem when the only problem is the actual writers.
Why do they even have to leave the galaxy?

Option 1: "Uh, the barrier got stronger over time, and it dried up the network at the edge of the galaxy."

Option 2: The writers didn't really understand the difference between "universe" and "galaxy."

Option 3: The writers didn't care.

Option 3b: The writers DID care, truly and deeply...it's just that they got distracted by a new Jell-O flavor, wandered off, and forgot about it.

I could see tendons and muscles that hold our galaxy together, but veins? Not only does Bad Robot not know Star Trek, they also don't know basic human biology. Veins don't hold things together.

I feel sorry for people who actually like Discovery for the storyline. Or lack there of.

The whole idea of teleporting via a space mushroom network is ridiculous anyway so not surprising they can't keep track of their own asspull ideas

I don't think writers understand the difference between "universe" and "galaxy".
Anytime in this video someone says "entire cosmos" or "universe", there is only "galaxy" shown on the background or as a hologram.

Hell, that's been the whole issue with going to the future in the first place! Why do they need to go to the future? To get away from Control. So why not just park themselves fifty galactic diameters away in a random direction? You can (and DID) go to another universe entirely. Surely your range is greater than Control's warp-drive-ships, right?

Right?

God, these writers fail at every conceivable level!

To be fair, mushroom network covering entire multiverse was just to dumb even for Discovery.

If you want to see a mistake not made in 50 yrs of star trek that discovery made, go watch season 4 episode 1. There is a bit where the president beams in, has a chat with admiral eats shit and monologue Burnham, then she walks off and beams out on screen, only you can still hear her fucking high healed footsteps walking off long after the beam out effect.

The other minor but for some reason real annoying gripe I have, why the fuck are there FLAME JETS on the bridge that always fire from these same little OBVIOUSLY purpose built grills on the bridge. Its from the 31st century now yet it makes me feel like someone is shoveling coal into the warpcore, oh and

WERE THE FUCK IS THE WARPCORE / ENGINEERING.

That shitty little grey space with a fish tank, is not engineering. TNG era was vastly more advanced yet engineering was a big busy space, as it has been in every star trek show, but in discovery its a desolate cold empty space devoid of soul. The warp core and engineering are the beating heart of any ship, the pinnacle of possible science, that should be a character in its own right. In post JJ trek ships are just plot devices, nothing more, may as well all be called the goodship lollipop. And no, a person voicing the sphere A.I. does not count.

Trying to make sense of this show is like trying to debate some religions lunatic when their basis for their position is faith... and we know how much new Trek loves its faith... There is no rhyme or reason to any of it. Whatever bullshit makes the writers of this show cream their jeans on any given day is what you get in the next episode.
