Airline: American Airlines (AA)
Flight Number: AA199
Route: MXP-JFK
Class: Business Class
Aircraft: Boeing 777-200ER
Registration: N-756AM
Delivered: August 2001
Flight Duration: 8 Hours 35 Minutes
Distance: 3,995 Miles
Overall Impression:
Ahhh... the dreaded AA Zodiac Concept D Seats--I know what you're thinking. Oddly enough I actually thought the seat was quite comfortable and did not feel any unwanted shaking or movements of the seat during the flight. In fact, this was one of the best flights we've had on American. We had an amazing JFK-based crew and the service was awesome. We were happy to see that AA has completely restored their pre-pandemic business class service. The food was your typical AA catering in Business Class out of Europe, but it was edible and we did not go hungry on this 8.5 hour flight across the pond.
What I liked:
The seats - I actually found the Zodiac Concept D Seats quite comfortable, minus the rocking and shaking from the adjacent seat, but oddly enough I did no feel any shaking on this flight. Perhaps AA has found a way to mitigate the issues with the seat? Pair that with personal air nozzles, and I was kept cool and comfortable through out the flight.
The onboard service – The crew on this flight was Awesome! The 2 business class flight attendants we interacted with onboard were proactive, charming, and delivered stellar service during the flight. The Pre-departure beverage service is back along with hot towel, as well.
The IFE - AA's Panasonic IFE is among my favorite in the sky. The interface is intuitive and responsive. There was also plenty of media content and my favorite Voyager moving map app to keep me occupied during this transatlantic flight.
What I didn't like:
The catering - As I mentioned above the catering out of Milan was OK on this flight. The salad and prawn appetizer were great, but the beef main that I pre-ordered did not look very appetizing, though in all fairness it was very tender. The pot pies for the pre-arrival meal tasted like a frozen boxed TV dinner from the supermarket. As a consolation, the ice cream sundae for dessert was amazing and the crew did a good job to setup the walk-up snackbar mid-flight for a quick snack.
Expensive WiFi Service - In-flight WiFi used to be $20 for the entire flight, but it appears the price has gone up almost double to $35.
It was OK...I guess:
The Montale Lounge at MXP - The Montale Lounge offered some nice seating areas. There were also some light refreshment options, but not really anything to write home about.
The Amenities - AA offers a Shinola business class amenity kit, Bang and Olufsen noise canceling headphones (collected 45 minutes before landing), a business class amenity kit, bottled water, and a full-size pillow and duvet set. No slippers or pajamas on AA though...
