In this video, we fly the RNAV 24 Y Approach into Bradley International in a Textron Bonanza. Interestingly the vertical/GS information was inaccurate but the landing was still successful.

Why wouldnt you show an RNAV that you actually got to work...

I’ve watched so many videos on RNAV approaches, & they all make it sound like rocket science!
Thanks for simplifying it to what it really is, easy!
You’re a great instructor, keep it up 👍🏽

Recently started flight simulator (never played a previous one) and have been using youtube videos like yours to learn the basics (and maybe slightly more advanced) parts of flying. Your videos and narration are great, thanks for the education!

I might have a nice puzzle for you, Gatcomb! Airport: KGYY ils RW30.... Start North of the airport on a South-easterly course, then capture the localizer, then catch the ils approach runway 30. The ils chart took me some time to figure out, but nailed it with nav 1 and nav 2 at the same time in the cesnna 152 (no glass) ... Thanks for the video's!

Not realizing, that the missed approach altitude is already programmed is one of the reasons for the Asiana 214 disaster. Thank you for the new tutorial!

Dude.. I also had the same issue as you did. I was way over the glide path despite listening to the ATC's instructions, and I quickly realized that I needed to do something. I then disconnected the autopilot, and followed the glidepath to successfully land.

Your videos are fantastic. Super helpful. Thanks for doing these videos.

I agree about the navigation data being inaccurate. It's unfortunate, especially in America, because the FAA has all the instrument procedures for every airport available online, for free.

Hi, I've seen all of your videos, and I'm learning a lot from you. You sir, are a legend, thank you so much for all the time you spend to help us newbies understand how to fly! Could you perhaps also do an IFR video on for example KAST-KPDX in a TBM930, complete from A to Z? So a cold & dark start, explaining the correct departure procedure, ATC communication & airspace analyses, transponder c-mode, the whole shabam. I'd like to make this my study flight that I will do over and over and over again.

I really just couldn't get the glidepath fix and would just keep going over the nav points. Essentially the approach mode would never go active to control my decent. After tons of research I found this is a common problem in MSFS2020 especially with the G1000. The issue it turns out is that the glidepath intercept is lower than indicated on the landing plates. Just going a few hundred feet or so (sometimes more) the indicated intercept point I found the glidepath would catch and start to bring me down and everything worked from there. Hope this saves some others the frustration i had after hours of repeated attempts without success.

IF YOU DONT CATCH THE GLIDEPATH AND THE PLANE WONT DESCEND ON ITS OWN, INTERCEPT THE GLIDEPATH AT A LOWER ALTIDUDE.

I think the barometric 29.92 wasnt the good setting with that weather and so the glideslope wasnt being found where it was supposed to be... Can i be right?

Really likes your videos. One thing though. How have you mastered the mousey thing. You seen, as by magic, to be able to manipulate the knobs and dials perfectly. Still sitting with my nose in the screen trying to get the right inner/outer knob. Very frustrating.
How do you do it?

Your videos are very clear and understandable. ... just subbed to your channel. And looking forward to do your "FS2020 Livestream - Multiplayer IFR Over Czechia" tomorrow 03 Oct at 1600.
I just have to understand how to join the multiplayer session.
Keep producing these tutorials!!
Ciao.

Microsoft doesn't seem to be loading all that fixes from the approaches into their flight plans. You can select the transition as if it were, but when you go to activate it, you can't actually navigate to it. Small issue if you're "just a flight simmer" kind of a big deal if you're using it as an IFR supplement to stay current,

thanks for the vid. I've noticed a disconnect between that baro pressure and true altitude with in the game. Even to the point when I use the in game ATC, the AI voice will announce an altitude different from what the instruments actually say. I think that might be happening with your LNAV... but cool demo anyways. thanks.

Hey Mr. P, anyway you could redo this video and go slower on what you are using and commenting on. I was really getting mixed up there on some of the procedures. I'm old and slow and would really love to use this method, it was very interesting and something I've been look for. I've been using AP with GPS but was have trouble putting together that with the change over with the Glideslope procedure to the runway. Love the videos, just a little too fast for me sometimes.

So I tried to do an RNAV into a local airport tonight in the TBM.

The FMS had the correct altitudes for the various transition points but the autopilot didn't seem to do any of the altitude changes. Has anyone actually seen FS2020 autopilot properly execute an RNAV approach? Do you have to enable VNAV to get the altitude changes? If so that's completely broken at the moment in most (all?) FS2020 planes, isn't it?

Great tutorials. One thing that would be helpful would be some kind of overlay in post that shows which buttons are activated at any given time (example AP engaged, NAV engaged). That way a viewer can scrub around to their problem areas and figure out what they might be missing.
