excellent advice, as usual. I try to fish outside bends on the "railroad side" (as opposed to the road side) with no access to the bank. . . .

That particular spot was around 8 feet. Key is to find structure that is not visible to the eye and has not been beat to death. I typically find that if teh spot does not feel right, but your electronics say something else, you will normally pull something from it. General rule of them, go at least a few miles from the ramp to get outside the limb line zone.

This river is actually pretty tame current wise.

Do not limit yourself to the outside bends, but they should be high on the list depending on the cycle they are in.

If the fish are there, you can get them to take a bait. May just take some time and adjusting bait position. Typically, your more active fish will be towards the front of the hole based on historical trends. Try not to get tied up on individual spots, or what I call a spot fishermen. 99% of the time I have no clue where I will be dropping a bait until I see it on the electronics. Smaller rivers can produce some large catfish, some creeks in Ohio are popular and produce some large Flatheads.

My river has very little current. I just bought a 3lb folding anchor for my boat after seeing yours. Nice fish too, btw! How deep of water were you fishing there? it didn't look particularly deep.

Dude, is that seriously the size of anchor you use for your boat? If so, why am I using a giant rake anchor?!

I don't have a boat.. i'm going to be spending all night fishing off the shore line, not exactly able to move up and down the shore a TON,   anyway, for these monster flatheads, how is the best way to use goldfish, since I am not good at obtaining bluegills (more like I don't want to bother)?? Do hot dogs work as well, or is it a myth that any stinky bait catches flat heads?
