I recently got a pet catfish and this little cat has managed to help me catch the chonkers. I’ve observed his behavior and I’ve noticed. Catfish are more likely to bite when their are large shoals or schools of fish above them. They’ll feed with a lot more confidence since they know it’s safe to come out or that there isn’t any competition.

I cover chicken livers with garlic salt for a day or so. It dries them up so they stay on the hook better.

Found your page 5 mins ago, amazing amateur recording and transitions thruout the video, nothing too advanced or difficult to understand. Voice is clear, and I like the father/son dynamic your channel brings. May want to start a channel like this with my dad one day (I live far away from family but visit alot)
God bless and have a great day, keep up the amazing work!

Very well done my friend. My go-to is nasty decaying chicken liver that's been left out in the sun and it'll often require that pantyhose. I'd suggest fishing deep at day and surface at night. I was a bit surprised that you didn't land on barometric pressure a bit but that is a big topic to cover. In general though, the lower the pressure, the better the fishing, unless it's a rapid change in pressure. The Farmers Almanac shows good time's to go fishing according to lunar phases but there are times where that calendar conflicts with the barometer and in those situations, the barometer is more reliable imo. Hope this comment is at least half as helpful to somebody as the video is. Good luck with your endeavors fellow fisherman

I use gauze finger size to put chicken livers and stink baits. Stays on the hook great.

It all sounds good but in truth where you fish has a lot to do with what bait works best. I live along the upper texas coast and I've used most of the foods you suggest. Night crawlers work well here, shad works well. Blood baits work great for small catfish but don't seem to catch big ones here. Live minnows work well. My personal favorite is fresh dead shrimp. It will catch channels and blue cats, and even flat heads well. As far as liver goes I use beef liver as it stays on the hook better than chicken livers. I've also caught nice fish on raw chicken soaked in cherry jello. Perch, live or as cut bait works well on trot lines. If you're near the coast we have fairly large mud minnows (a brackish water killifish) that make great live trot line bait for catfish. Even chunks of soap work on trot lines at night. In other words most baits will catch catfish but each lake or river has a different bait that works best so you have to try multiple baits to find the one the fish will bite on well.

I have a bad habit get catfish combos rods. Got 4 and then it doesn't stop 😮 a good habitat to have. ABU Garcia, Lew's, UGLY Stick catfish rods just got a Zebco bait alert on it nice choice to put them on for cheeper combos. My first combo is Zebco Boss Hawg 808 medium heavy power rod and the reel got sooper toon out of all of my rods is my first one to grab. Is ezzy to use if i need to lend it to someone in my family. Like the video nice job.

Raw pork or chicken has always worked for me. When I was younger I'd get free pork chop packs from the food pantry and it was so much me and my dad couldn't eat it all, so if any went bad I'd use it as bait lol. Works really well honestly and I'd recommend it to anyone for channel or bullhead catfish.

Moved to a small farming town called Lowell Michigan after 8th grade ended in 1977. Took up with a local kid that I’m still friends with, and he introduced me to a great catfish bait. We would run down to the bigger of two rivers that ran through town called Grand River and he taught me how to hunt for clams. We have several clam species in this area and most but not all make fantastic bait. We would walk or float down the river and feel for the clams sticking out on the bottom (not very deep) and we would collect a 5 gallon bucket of them and walk it back home with some water in it of course. Then we would head back to the river in late afternoon for bank fishing. We had the standard kids type equipment then. You know, the high tech full glass poles, Zeno 202’s!! Hahaha! 12lb mono was our go to and whatever sizable hooks we could scrape enough by to buy down at the local bait/sports shop. Thats all it took and we caught all the cats we wanted every outing. Channel, flatheads and sometimes even bass or pike! We had a ball and it didn’t cost us much at all and made lifetime memories! Those clams worked the best for us over the years. I believe it’s now illegal in Michigan to collect those clams claiming they are endangered. At least back in later 70, 80’s, there were so many it only took us 30 minutes to fill a 5 gal bucket. They were everywhere in the Grand then. Never saw anyone else use them and we kept the secret to ourselves.

Cheese hot dogs are my favorite catfish bait. I've also caught my biggest catfish with SPAM

Baby Bull heads are excellent. Cat fish Charlie an be-jay are the oldest. Used it for over 50 years. They'll come in along the bank at night 2 to 3 feet from the bank a throw line 2 hooks and blue gill are best. Some of the biggest cat fish swim right in front of you and most Fisher men don't even realize it. Especially on the river.
