Probably because the editors knew it would sell better.

This isn't true, Araki said part 7 has always been a part of the JoJo franchise and be part 7, and iirc the real reason it wasn't labeled as JoJo on the cover was because they wanted JoJo to look better for new readers that aren't caught up on JoJo

SBR in 2004?! Damn I always forgot that jojo is actually a really old manga

Araki said part 7 was always meant to be part 7 of JoJo, they removed JoJo from the title to tell new readers they don't need to read the previous 6 for this one

While it is true it was just called Steel Ball Run at first, this was done to convey it was a soft reboot so new fans could get into the series at this point without having to read parts 1-6.

Its pretty clear this is a JoJo part 7 given, y’know, the main character is named Johnny Joestar, and the main side character is named Gyro Zeppeli (as in William/Caesar). Plus Hey Ya is introduced only a couple chapters in.

Nope, Steel Ball Run was always supposed to be the 7th part of JoJo, they just named it Steel Ball Run so it would attract new readers

Araki forgot that jojo keeps him unageing by making him a vampire. He remembered again.

stop spreading misinformation. 1st, part 7 has absolutelly nothing to do with part 6's ending besides the fact that it concludes the storyline of the main universe, giving araki no point to continue on it, thus why he "restarted" the series from part 7 onward. 2nd, part 7 was never made to detach himself from jojo, shown by the fact that there are a lot of characters that reference other from previous parts and, obviously, because of stands being present. 3rd, it wasn't named "jojo" at first because it isn't related to the previous parts and araki wanted people to be able to read it without needing to read the others, so he didn't name it as a jojo part at first, but always intended it to be one.

People have already said it, but Steel Ball Run was always a JoJo’s title, since Araki was starting a whole new universe, the JoJo’s title was left out so that readers wouldn’t feel intimidated jumping in. It was added back in later because everybody already knew it was JoJo’s.

For those wondering why this is. Part 6’s story ended, and Part 7 is the beginning of a new story. Lore wise, the creation of Part 7’s universe is completely unrelated to the events of Part 6

“Detatching himself from the Jojo franchise” Well that didnt work at all he just made it longer and attatched himself even more to Jojo

Doesn't Araki himself said he wanted to get people by surprise?
The manga doesn't mention anything about stands until chapter 6 iirc, and then boom welcome to part 7 mfs

It was actually because Shonen Jump asked him to, to atract new readers (since a series with a "Part 7" on it, might not atract too many new people. Kind of what Mortal Kombat did with MK1) when it sas changed to the Ultra Jump Araki just changed it back because "I just really want to call it JoJo. I mean, it's JoJo, isn't it? Even though actors or setting change, the James Bond movies are still called 007"

"STEEL. BALL. RUUUUN, STEEL. BALL. RUUUUN, STEEL BALL RUN" 🔥🔥🔥

Actually it was always supposed to be a part of Jojo this is a common myth the reason why it wasn't called JoJo originally was so that it would look better to new readers who weren't caught up

This is NOT true, it was always intended to be Jojo Part 7. It was simply not titled as such originally. It really isn't hard to understand

Random think here, I was getting up from my seat at 2Am when he put Luffy on screen and I saw the wolf for just a second and thought to myself "Is that Andy?" Then I went back and looked harder for not even a moment and said to myself "Yup thats my favorite undead badass"

No?
People asked if it was an part of the jojo franchise because there were no stands for like, a hot while, but araki was like 👍

Also Gyro has way more protagonism than Johnny for 80% of the story

It was originally supposed to be part 7 but the editors didn’t want it to be so it wasn’t for a bit then they changed it when they switched
