TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY 35mm Screening

A 35mm screening of Terminator 2 had been arranged in our home cinema thanks to Ben Wales and Anthony Bueno. We got together to revisit this film as we'd all seen it in 1991. Aspect ratio is approximately 2.40:1 and the sound is Dolby SR. An absolute joy to see it again on 35mm film and also to hear it with THX sound. Wonderful!
Anthony and his sister Claire were the directors of the Ghostbusters documentary 'Cleanin' Up The Town' so I didn't miss the opportunity to ask him about this on camera and about their current project 'Too Hot To Handle' which is the follow-up documentary about Ghostbusters 2. They were also major players in the feature lenght making of documentary for An American Werewolf In London called 'Beware The Moon' which is on the standard Blu-ray release as well as the Arrow Films Blu-ray.
Glimpses of T2 shown in this video are for illustrative purposes only.

Hands down the best cinematic experience I’ve ever had was watching T2 when it originally came out, relentlessly brilliant.

That opening future war sequence is an absolutely sublime piece of filmmaking.

Cleanin' up the Town is an exceptionally good documentary, really looking forward to the sequel.

T2 is pretty good too!

I've just chanced across this lovely video tonight. All of you clearly have so much love and respect for this movie (and I suspect movies in general) and your collective joy having just watched and experienced T2 on 35mm again is just infectious. I'm sat here with a huge grin on my face at the end of my 45th birthday (I was too young for this in the cinema, but a huge fan from VHS release onward) and listening to you all geek out about the technical elements and issues of the format(s) is truly wonderful. Cheers to all, and thanks for a great ending to my bday.

Wow - what a treat! Opening battle in the future war is still beyond the imagination of most directors. I bet you were smiling constantly!

I’ve had this film on quite a few formats (my best edition being DVD t-1000 ultimate edition special edition). THX intro is still the best Sound intro ever made. This film is perfection - grown up with it (I’m 41).

Thanks, Clark.

I’ve watched this 22 times at the cinema including 35mm, 70mm blow-up, 3D, Superscreen and as a double-bill with The Terminator at BFI IMAX (DCP as there was never an IMAX release of this movie) in August 2024.

Watched a 35mm Terminator double-bill at Prince Charles Cinema a few years ago.

It's my favorite movie of all time, great sequel, effects that still hold up and every time i watch the film i am amazed with the cinematography. It was such a big hit back then and i was counting down the days till it's release. And it did not disappoint, i remember when the credits rolled I thought "i just saw a very special movie' and that remains till this day.

Great video! So amazing to be able to project film at home, especially 35mm, what a treat! T2 remains a favourite I've seen so many times, mostly my NTSC LaserDisc box set with the padded exterior! So over the top, but a beautiful presentation! I recently bought the remastered Blu Ray and was disappointed by the smearing from noise reduction, but it's still an enjoyable film. Must fire-up the LD version again soon!

Thank you for this video, this brought back some great memories for me! I used to live in Germany and as a huge fan, I bought a 35mm copy of T2 in the late 90s off of eBay for around 300 Deutsch Marks (this was before the Euro). I never owned a 35mm projector but a friend of a friend had one and we got together once and I was able to see it projected. I since then moved to the US, but I still own it.

I was just 10 years old when this came out. The sheer excitemne t and buzz around this was insane. I remember our teacher coming over to us on the field at primary school to tell us what it was like. I remember it like it was yesterday.

Hi John! Excellent! Thanks for sharing this with us! I remember being intrigued to see Cleaning up the Town after you mentioned it in your earlier video. I'm holding my Blu Ray Steelbook of An AW in London but have not put in in the player yet. I don't own the 4k of this one but need to get it if that's where Anthony's documentary is I really want to see this. Don't even mention J Agutters name I will NOT sleep tonight for her haunting beauty hahahahaha! Darn I'm just gonna go now and reserve my Terminator 4k as a blind buy after watching this video. I was holding out for your review after the fact but now I'm just gonna grab it. Love love love T2. Hoping to hell they rerelease these in cinema's for this new 4k release! Many thanks again for sharing this with us! Cheers D in BC!

Thanks John. Great video. Must say I’m really looking forward to the Aliens uhd vs 35mm video. On a side note I would happily pay a premium to have the Cameron remastered version and the full grain left in version on a release.

Watched T2 in the cinema 1st time round, and when I walked out, I was like, "This is the best sequel ever made for a film( along with aliens) even today in 2024 the special effects just don't date or look stupid. Brilliant and loved watching this little video discussion

As a projectionist had a lot of fun with the opening of T2, we had a bloody good sound system and that opening sequence when the robot foot stamps on the skull we up the subs and up the volume on that one moment and watch the audience jump out of their seats and skins obviously turning things down once the sound effects really kick in, you had to be sensible with peoples hearing!

I’m a die hard Cameron fanboy, and I’ll defend him to the end. But even I can’t defend his decisions for this in recent years.
