Association - Along Comes Mary (1966)

Every time I think that I'm the only one who's lonely
Someone calls on me
And every now and then I spend my time at rhyme and verse
And curse those faults in me
And then along comes Mary
And does she want to give me kicks, and be my steady chick
And give me pick of memories
Or maybe rather gather tales fromhe fails and tribulations
No one ever sees
When we met I was sure out to lunch
Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch
When vague desire is the fire in the eyes of chicks
Whose sickness is the games they play
And when the masquerade is played and neighbor folks make jokes
At who is most to blame today
And then along comes Mary
And does she want to set them free, and let them see reality
From where she got her name
And will they struggle much, when told that such a tender touch of hers
Will make them not the same
When we met I was sure out to lunch
Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch
And when the morning of the warning's passed, the gassed and flaccid kids
Are flung across the staras
The psychodramas and the traumas gone
The songs are left unsung and hung upon the scars
And then along comes Mary
And does she want to see the stains, the dead remains of all the pains
She left the night before
Or will their waking eyes, reflect the lies, and make them realize
Their urgent cry for sight no more
When we met I was sure out to lunch
Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch

I was fifteen years old when this son was a hit.absolutely some of the best times of my life.getting away from the house on your own for the first time, because your older buddies have a car.this song playing on the car radio.nobody really knowing all of lyrics.it just rocked.ten years ago they appeared here in the poconos, after they performed they had a meet and greet.lot of fun.I told them that if I was taking the oath of office for president, and I heard this song playing, I would have to hold up the ceremony until it was finished.

Summer of '66....great music, fine ladies, parties, the beach, Ali fights, and excitement about the future...after the day job....and tooling in my '51 Dodge!

When music was music. I feel sorry for those who weren't alive in the 1960s. This song just about epitomizes what the music of the decade was. What a time it was.

A torrent of great lyrics, terrific vocals and superb arrangement.
One of the best tunes to come out the '60s. And very different.

The day before my wedding, I was sitting on our local beach with my radio, when this song came on. That's my first memory of "Along Comes Mary."

Music is eternal. Two of my six children are musicians. They listen to all genres. When traveling with me they groove right along with the oldies and appreciate my era of music as much as their own. I got them started young, performing in theaters, from Rogers and Hammerstein to Arthur Miller.  Parent and Grandparents, expose your progeny to the arts! It will enrich all your lives. To Adamtrng who posted this, many thanks.

I remember when I was riding the bus to school, aged 9 and this song came on and I was filled with absolute happiness.
'Windy' came out the next year, and the Association became my first favorite pop group.

One of those songs I remember hearing as a child in the 70s and 80s. Along with some other 60s songs it has a vibe that clung to my brain. Shame I'm only looking it up now.

That interlude with guitar and flute from 1:42 - 1:55 takes this song over the top. Well crafted and performed song, love it!
