A friend of mine has edema in both legs and takes an antidepressant and other meds. I feel pretty sure her doctors never warned her about possible clots. On the rare occasions I've ever been prescribed a med, no doctor has warned me of any side effects. But I always read the inserts, and mostly then decide not to take the med, which works out fine.

That's true, my daughter's mother-in-law took birth control pills and smoked and at age 25 during her pregnancy got a blood clot in her lower leg calf area. Then in her 50s that same leg, the femur broke while she stumbled jogging. Imagine that is related to the lower blood flow. I was always afraid to take any hormones myself. I'm too sensitive as if it is without messing around. Thank you!

Regarding HRT, bioidentical transdermal (cream form) hormone replacement therapy does not carry those same risks. Conventional synthetic HRT uses horse estrogen in one formula and synthetic non bioidentical estrogens and progesterone in others. The hormone deficient body is much more subject to degenerative conditions than a body treated with BHRT. I am an ND.

I went to the cardiologist and he told me I had low blood pressure than he gave me high blood pressure medication I asked questions of him and the pharmacist and they both get me the confusing answer that made me think again

Before starting HRT, having exhausted all other possibilities for treatment of extreme symptoms of menopause, I researched Estradot patches which are oestrogen patches. My understanding is that taking oestrogen trans dermally does not increase the risk of clots. HRT has saved my sanity and my physical health. I think it is important to point out that NOT all HRT is equal!
