I don’t understand the hesitation to use nuclear energy. If you use the strict guidelines we used in the Navy you have one of the safest nuclear power programs in the history of the world. At least domestically use nuclear power plants manned by navy personnel. It seems to be working well for the last 70 years

Why does everyone pretend they don’t know.
Always follow the money. Oil still equals profit and nuclear energy would be an economic threat.
As soon as the big oil companies can control nuclear, it will be the go to energy source.

Thorium reactors would solve the dual use problem and address safety concerns…

It has nothing to do with safety, it has everything to do with keeping energy expensive and squeezing every last dime out of those who have to buy it

I'm glad that companies like Peninsula Energy are restarting uranium production ON US SOIL

Great way to describe the size of the energy, oil is great

Environmental activists are the reason.

Employee clearance is an issue as well. A whole new door opens within another sector of American occupation, for foreign espionage.

Follow the money. Big oil owns governments - case closed.

Also countries dealing with the nuclear waste properly. I forget what the country is but they invested a lot of money in tunneling to store it until it dissipates.

Nuclear reactor projects were getting massive social and political pushback in the early 70s. Couple that with the AEC to NRC transition in 1975, the environmental movement in the Nixon years, and ultimately the tapering of electricity demand growth in the mid to late 70s and you understand why nuclear was doomed, even before the notorious two accidents in 79 and 86. What’s wild is that environmentalists in the 70s actually pushed for building coal plants (and massive conservation) as a strategy until solar and wind could be built. Fast forward 50 years and we are still burning massive amounts of coal and now natural gas.

Anybody who thinks nuclear is unsafe needs to talk to the people of Fukushima and get straightened out

We could also burn our trash to create energy and eliminate methane gas from entering the atmosphere from landfills.

Well the US gets 20% of it energy from nukes and France 80% so it not like it is nowhere. But it definitely needs to be higher in the US.

Western economies transitioned from being cheap energy limited to now being cheap labor limited - that's where this never-ending push for constant migration comes from.
And cheap unskilled labor is incompatible with safe nuclear power operation.

What really chaps me is the fact we have such an amazing technology amazing in every way like you could present the galaxy with this and it would be cool. And we don’t use it bc some wallets will get lighter. The world is tired of everything but cause everything

For the love of ... Hyman G. Rickover, JRE - PLEASE have a podcast with Kirk Sorensen. And try not to be sold on Nuclear Power in the first 60 seconds.

He’s wrong. We don’t have nuclear bc it’s cheap and effective and thus energy is no barrier to wealth
