When 8" long, supposedly strong, zippers failed we replaced them with wide Velcro which held up for 4+ years of Narraganset Bay weather including several hurricanes. They did get blown open a couple of times, but were easily resealed unlike the broken zippers.

Great choice on getting the crew in to do the fairing, sanding, repeat and paint. This definitely is a job for those who do it all the time. It always amaze me just how thick they lay on the fairing compound before they fair it out. You are going to have a beautiful paint finish when you are done.

I believe... saw it probably a year ago now...

There is a Americas cup boat sitting in a container at Point Yacht Club in South Africa...

Boat name is shoshaloza... I believe it's been sitting in that container since it stopped racing. Hasn't moved

Matt, I just purchased 20' zippers for a bird netting project from Bird B Gone. They are heavy duty, could be fastened to a tarp with a batten strip. Reasonably priced. They are available either open ended or closed.

A very wise decision to get the fairing and painting done by professional. Hopefully the joint / transition, from original aft quarter to the extendension, will be invisible.

Fast Cap has magnetic dust barrier doors. Might work better than zippers for big stuff. Otherwise frame in a door.

So glad to see your work progressing, the fairing of a hull, especially this size is an artform and the people able to do this are exceptional. Getting experts for this job will save you so much time and expense. Keep up the good work and best of luck.

A fully enclosed structure is much safer in high winds ... just be sure that wind can't get into and under it and turn it into a wing/sail.

So I roll up to this channel that I have never seen before -- even though I have watched hundreds of boat rebuilds on YouTube over the years (major algorithm fail, YT). 140 episodes waiting for me!! It's been a fantastic week jumping around your long list, getting to know you all (nod to Inspector), and experiencing this major transformation. Especially interesting is the quickness from idea to prototype to working model to finished result – so much creativity and personality on display. THANK YOU -- and how exciting to join in moments before the big paint.

If you're afraid of storm winds messing with the tent, take a tip from the mobile home owners and shed owners in Tornado country: put some aircraft cables over the top of the structure and anchor them to ground screw anchors.

I find for every job I dont want to do. Paying someone else to do it works best for me. My motto is, "If you leave something long enough, your wife will sort it out. My wife loves

There is a Deerfoot 64 clearing in to NZ tomorrow that will be for sale ASAP. It has a Yanmar that needs replacing so the price will reflect that. The owners really want to sell. It's a 3 cabin boat so 6 berths. It's a good boat for electrification as it's easily driven and fast enough for realistic regeneration. PM me for the details

You need a baby sling. There are a dozen varieties. Some have tool holders.

hope you aren't paying them much they don't look very experienced.

Instead of zippers, can you use velcro which comes in long strips or strip magnets which are used for hanging fly screen doors?

Hi Matt, while you have been weighing everything going on the boat, do you estimate the fairing compounds added weight ?

Matt, where do you get your PET cores in the NW? I'm in Utah and wondering about getting my hands on some for a smaller project. Thanks
