Problem and possible solution with flash metering YONGNUO triggers. Pre-flash issues.

NOTE: I failed to mention that the YN622N II flash instructions says they will work with 1.2 volt batteries.

I just purchased a Sekonic L-308S flash meter on EBay, and it took me a full afternoon before I figured out that the combination of the yongnuo receiver/transmitter and the Nikon flash does not give a correct reading on the meter. I thought I was going crazy and actually requested to return the meter because I thought it was defect. Fortunately, I only have one Nikon Speed light. My other 3 are yongnue speed lights, and there is no issue with a pre flash. Thank you for that in-dept video... wish I would have come across it before I spend a whole afternoon wondering if I was crazy.

Thanks guys for the comments! I thought I was going mad too but eventually guessed that pre-flash was the issue. Moran Schwartz, your solution works but it's far too much hassle. I think I'll buy some more Yongnuo YN685s and ditch my Nikon flashes.

i did had the same problem, but i did find a way to use the lightmeter.
there are 2 ways i use it...
1. put the camera in Mirror up mode, so the preflash will fire when the mirror goes up, after the preflash turn on the lightmeter and make the picture, the main flash will fire, and you can meter it.
2. set the flash in your camera to 2nd curtain sync, if you move any lights, and want to know the right setting, put the shutter speed to 2 seconds or so, take the picture and the preflash will fire, and you have 2 seconds to turn on your lightmeter before the mainflash will fire.
goodluck, and let me know if this works for you! :)

hi
you can do it more easly and leaving your flash on ttl.
you have to do some things first:
1.you have to use the flash lock option, i put one button to the flash lock option.
2. put your "c" group always on ttl mode (on the yn622n tx ).
3.leave the flash in ttl.
4.when you want to mesure the power of the flash, you first trigger the Pre flash with the preflash button lock.
5.you take a photo! measering the flash power.
hope it helps! ask me if it was not clear

Babbling presentation style. Much of what is shown is off-screen. Very poor.
