The Google Pixel 8 has been around for almost a year. With its successor right around the corner and with the big savings, is it worth picking one up now? Is it the perfect time to buy a Pixel 8? This is our Google Pixel 8 long-term review.

I hated my Pixel 8 when it came out. It overheated horribly, apps froze randomly, battery life was horrible, etc. But google did it. Somehow, they addressed every issue with software updates, and the pixel is a rock solid phone now. Now, that the pixel 9 is about to release.

7:57 There it is! Thought we weren't gonna get a One Plus mention for a second there, Ry. Don't scare us like that 😅

The size was one of the biggest reasons I bought this phone. The phone has been great for a year. I have a case born case and it's kept my phone protected.

Short aswer: YES
Pixel 9 series really isn't a big enough upgrade to justify $300 more for the base model, and $450 more for the large pro (compared to the current pixel 8/pro sale prices [$499 and $649] on the official google store). Just buy the pixel 8 pro now for $649, it's an amazing deal.

The only reason to wait for the pixel 9 series is if you want a small pro since that doesn't currently exist.

I'm not buying another pixel until they seriously improve battery life and/or charging speed. I'm super spoiled by my current phone.

I've had mine since early April and it's been a perfectly okay phone. It was on sale and I grabbed a 256 GB model. While I like it, I do feel a bit of buyers remorse when the S24 has this beat almost every way except for photography and the cheaper price and better sales.

I do think this is a fine phone but there's clearly better out there. Sadly I don't feel enthusiastic about smartphones anymore and this was what I settled with. You'll have a good time with it but do expect things like battery life to be worse than the competition. I do get all day use should I monitor my usage, but if you're going to be using this for GPS or using the camera quite a bit, bring a power bank.

I was thinking about going with the 8 pro, but now I changed my mind about it because I game on my phone sometimes & I couldn’t see myself dealing with a lackluster experience.

Would probably bought a Pixel already, only thing that keeps me away is the slow charging. I am just used to the fast charging from Oneplus, just plug it in for 15 mins and your good to go for the day.

I bought the Pixel 8 last week for 515 Euro and happy 😀

I signed a 24 month contract with essentially free data for about ~19$/month and got the Pixel 8 for free. This phone runs much smoother than my laggy and extremely battery draining galaxy S22 Ultra. I also love the smaller size.

Yes this is a great time to purchase. Got $300 off in Canada at Bestbuy and they included the Pixel watch. What a superb deal. This phone is a perfect replacement in size and capability for my Samsung s20. It has most of the AI tricks and will get Android updates until 2030.

Some months ago I was in doubt between the pixel 8 and the galaxy s23, but as in my country the pixel is more expensive and doesn't come with a warranty, I chose the s23. And I think it was the best choice I could have made.

I 100% understand the appeal, I have a lil' S24 and there's something about the small size that's so great.

Google doesn't sell Pixels in my country, so people buy it abroad and Pixel 8 has regular connection issues (sometimes it's just misses the call or suffers from quality of call, or if you went out from an elevator the connection can appear only after 10 minutes).
As mentioned earlier in the comments, battery life is not that good and Tensor G3 can heat without any reasons.
And the screen is great, but it has a big pulse-width modulation (PWM), which is the typical problem of samsung's screens.

I really wish Google will solve these problems in the next generations, but now I think twice before buying Pixel 8 (Or even Pixel 9, will see).

I recently picked mine up for 469€. For that price it's an absolute must. I don't think there is a phone that's a better overall package right now.

I got some imported, or "display unit" Pixel 3 for my brother, in 2023.
Even after 6 Years, it really holds up. If it had an original battery, and had waterproofing intact, it would still be worthy of being used as primary.
The only real flaw of the Pixel 3 is the lack of RAM, which the Pixel 8 fixes.

I think the Pixel 8 is a great buy, and most likely will last 7 Years, because if the Pixel 3 can, the 8 definitely will.

Unpopular rant but wished Google would move on from their 20:9 display aspect ratio decision.

I wanted an 8 at release but it was never meant to be. I'm glad I waited for the 9 series as a smaller pro is all I've wanted (upgrading from the 7)
