The transit happened on monday November 11, 2019. It took Mercury about 5 and a half hours to pass over the disc of the sun (as seen from Earth). The NEXT Mercury transit will be in 2032.

The diameter of Mercury is about 3, 032 miles. For comparison, the length of the United States is about 2, 800 miles. The distance of Mercury from Earth is supposed to be about 48 million miles away.

But it's one of the first objects you can see in the night sky sometimes?

Something the size of America can be seen with the naked eye...and it's 48 MILLION miles away?

Hmmm...
