Sly & The Family Stone ~ Everyday People 1969 Soul Purrfection Version
Показать описание
Sly and The Family Stone had their first hit in 1968 with "Dance To The Music" that reached the Top 10 by peaking at #8 that announced the arrival of a new group that would take pop music in a decidedly psychedelic funky and soulful direction.
They were all about lifting up the masses to a higher plane in the early part of their career, creating a genre known as psychedelic soul. Psychedelia was a drug influenced type of music particularly LSD that enhanced the experience of everything and came to help define the 60's social tumult that pretty much still exists today.
"Everyday People" clearly outlines the prejudice in the chorus and points out that we are all Everyday People. The song was so strong and unifying that it spent four weeks atop the Hot100 and 2 weeks at #1 the R&B Chart.
The bright, tye dyed clothes and jeans they used to wear set them apart from everyone else and their message of inclusiveness and tolerance got through to just about everyone. Star maker producer Clive Davis did not think that the garish garb would appeal to today's kids but he was wrong. They immediately embraced their new hero and turned their first single "Dance To The Music" into a #8 pop hit.
It's educational, gospel message of brotherhood couched in dance funk helped him reach a wider audience. "What I write is people's music. I want everyone, even the dummies, to understand what I am saying. That way they won't be dummies anymore", declared Sylvester Stone.
