Rishi Sunak vows to re-introduce compulsory national service

The UK government has unveiled plans to introduce a year's compulsory national service for 18-year-olds if it remains in power.

The plan would involve 18-year-olds being given the choice to either apply for a year-long placement with the armed forces or in cyber defence.

Rishi Sunak wants to set up a Royal Commission into how the national service scheme would operate.
