TW: Death & injury
“Pronit and I met on Facebook in 2008. However, we only spoke 3 years later. But you know how a crisis brings out the best and the worst? That’s what brought us close.
In 2012, Baba passed away abruptly and I was inconsolable. Pronit would stay on call for hours and ask, ‘Can I do anything to help?’ It warmed my heart.
So, a month later, when he asked, ‘Shruti, let’s date?’ I was sure, despite having never met him. And I was looking forward to seeing him and introducing him to Mom.
But before any of that, in a month, I lost Mom to cancer. It was a dark year for me. Although, even from a distance, he became my light. He gave me time to heal and in 2013, we finally managed to meet for the first time.
I remember nervously waiting for him at the airport. The moment our eyes met, he had a bright smile! When we hugged, I felt my heart unlock!
He stayed at my place and from there we flew to Goa! It was a quick trip and when he left, I kept thinking, ‘I wish he was here.’
I think he felt it too—in 2 months, he visited again! This time, we did a drive to Lonavala—but it turned out to be a nightmare… On our way back, we got hit by a car. I hurt my knee but Pronit ended up with multiple facial injuries. I was trembling, calling for an ambulance. An hour later, we reached the hospital.
I was panicking—I couldn’t afford to lose him too. He was scheduled for plastic surgery the next morning. It lasted 8 hours. I was reeling until he got out.
But he, being a happy-go-lucky man, got discharged in a week! We informed his parents only after that. They were concerned but glad I was with him.
That’s when we began living together. We visited the hospital every week as his eye hadn’t healed. Recovery was a slow journey.
Still slowly, we tried getting back to normal–we went to new restaurants and discovered new places. Pronit even began driving again! We were so involved in each other that marriage just felt natural.
So in 2016, we got hitched! Life has been good since. During the lockdown, we got Bugzie and became pet parents!
By August last year, we decided to get Pronit’s eye removed as it was only hindering him. A decade later, our visits to the hospital were over— we were so relieved! We began travelling with Bugzie instead.
And today, we are stronger than ever because our love really has been the remedy to every tragedy!”
