I don't know, I can't get myself to enjoy a race that isn't about going as fast as possible but about ...saving energy.
I mean in the case of 24 hour races I can recognize that this is a factor, but 24 hour races are more about endurance anyway. A short race on a street circuit however isn't.

If you compare it to humans racing each other on foot a 24 hour race is a bit like a marathon and it's natural that they don't sprint the whole thing. However a "normal" race is more like a 500 m race.
